In the past couple hundred miles my truck has developed a slight pull/drift to the right, even on the flattest smoothest of roads. The odometer just clicked over 800 miles. Is this common as the suspension settles? Or is it just another common issue like the rear diff howling?

In all honesty, I'm disappointed with my purchase overall. I've found numerous small QC issues and my God is the drivers seat uncomfortable. The more I drive it the more I miss my 2010 SR5, but it had frame rot.

    Sorry for the venting.

Alignment is covered by warranty for 1 year and less than 10,000, so feel free to check it in after it breaks in a bit.

I figured that, it's just another annoyance, and I was wondering if it's common with the 3rd Gen?

Not really, but any vehicle that is shipped can endure slight alignment issues. I've done a few tacomas since 2016, but not many.

It's still your right after buying an expensive truck.

Yeah they could be rough on them when tying them down, I was thinking that. I don't see a rod or anything bent.

    Thanks for replying.

True story as bishop stated, give it about 2000-5000kms for the suspension to settle in before you get an alignment. These trucks also don't have electric steering so with an alignment some guys purposefully will let it drift a touch right for in the event of say falling a sleep at the wheel on the highway you head to the ditch not to oncoming traffic

Get it aligned and quit looking for shit to be upset about. This is a mass produced pick-em-up truck, not a C8 Corvette!

Mine drifts slightly to the right as well. Has 50k miles on it now, but did it from very early on. I had the dealer realign it twice under warranty. The second time they tried to say the saw evidence of off roading and wanted to weasel out of it but I called bs and insisted. I don’t know if they ever actually made any adjustments or not. Seemed to get better, but it was not perfect.

finally took it to an alignment only shop and had them do it and it was perfect for a time…that was about 15k miles ago. Starting to pull slightly again, so maybe I need to go back.

anyway, I love my truck, but yeah…this is one of those little things that can grate on you after a bit.

dont know about the comment indicating that maybe they have vehicles pull a bit to the right “on purpose”. Sounds like alignment tech propaganda to avoid doing a job over. Make my vehicle track straight as an arrow!

As an alignment tech it's not a rule but it is standard practise because you'd rather hit the ditch than on coming traffic.

On most roads, with camber even on both sides and a little toe in, 0.5* more caster on the right side will keep you very straight on your average crowned road. 0.6-0.7* more caster on the right will keep you perfect but depending on the tires it could pull left. Most people aren't gonna drive exclusively with no hands on a straight away so I play it safe and set to 0.5* unless I have a reason not to. In a perfect world, sure you can keep aligning to perfection but unfortunately we get paid by the job so we want it to be right the first time without spending all day on it. You'll drift to the ditch over about 1km or half a mile with 0.5* caster split setting most times and on most vehicles. All terrain tires will also drift a little more than "highway/summer tires" with a solid centre rib

My new 23 (purchased in June) had a "drift left" issue. Brought it back to the dealer about a week after purchase and had a tech take a ride with me (to avoid the "We can't replicate...BS). He observed and agreed, back into the shop for a full tire rotation, alignment and tire pressure reset (all 4 tires were at different psi). No issues since. This was with the Factory 18" Michelins.

Get the alignment checked. If it still pulls, it could be a tire that's out of round.

Wow you guys sure are loyal to your truck/brand and get butt hurt pretty easily. If we never point out flaws or defects, manufacturers will continue to make vehicles with too many flaws and defects, mass produced vehicle or not.

I asked a simple question. To those who responded with sound advice I appreciate it. To the boys, get real and stop convincing yourself of your own superiority. Corvettes are mass produced and yes they suffer from QC issue too. I get it you love your truck, but there's no reason to be defensive about it.

I was mostly curious if this was a know issue.

New vehicles will have quirks it just depends whether or not the particular person will put up with those quirks, and or how bad they are. Yes the suspension is settling, and is why I'm waiting to take it in for an alignment. Test drives only tell you so much, as things start moving around things will change.

Here's another one that will stir the pot. At night the gear indicator is crazy bright the letter D reflect off the passenger window, and it doesn't dim. Time to sell!

In all seriousness, yes I'm a stickler and I pick things apart, it was part of my job for 25 years, so habits die hard. The general population likely wouldn't even notice what I do. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

Both my Tacomas required alignment within the first year. It’s free for 12 months.

Just wait until you have a real issue like a timing cover leak :anonymous:. That’s when the fun truly starts

My new '21 did. Wife immediately. "You're not aligned". Dealership improved it but it wasn't really "cured" until I upgraded shocks then paid for alignment at wheel shop.

My recent TRD Pro 4Runner needed 2 new tires, an alignment, and a new rear shock right out of the gate. I’ve purchased A LOT of new vehicles (not a flex, just a habitual car flipper) and every single one has needed at least one thing.
