Cracked one of these for the first time tonight too.

Every bit as good as the TN whiskey.

    Oddly enough
I had no idea this thread existed….

Unicorn auction called today, they want me to physically drive it to them because they’re afraid it’s too much “value” to ship

Wonder if I could do a raffle?
Cause I’m not driving to Chicago

Drove by The ABC store at 08:00 this morning on my way to the grocery store because I forgot Poblano peppers for my chili. There were 6 people sitting in folding chairs waiting. ABC doesn't open till 10:00. The only pics I'll be posting tonight of what I bought will be an empty table. Just not worth it.

Look into the unique Kentucky laws that allow private party sale of “vintage distilled spirits” to licensed sellers of such spirits.

Bottom line, if you have a bottle that is no longer available from wholesale in the state, you can sell it to a licensed shop. I assume this means if you have bottles that are specific to a batch/year, those qualify. So, a Stagg Jr batch 17 qualifies, you can’t buy it wholesale anymore. A Blanton’s may not qualify because it’s not year/batch specific. So there may be a sizeable chunk of your collection you can liquidate this way.

I'll enter that raffle and I'll have zero issues with you shipping to my location or I'll just flat out buy some bottles off of you. You know, help with the burden

I wandered onto one of those randomly at an ABC here about a month ago. It was being passed over by the masses as it was on a display right next to Buffalo Trace, which everyone was grabbing of course. Just the one bottle.

I happily adopted it and brought it home to the rest of the family.

    A few post back
    I mentioned house of bourbon
(The place that buys private collections)
    Lost their liquor license

I was discussing the raffle idea with a few people who are more educated on the law than me
And I still have to do some research on the legality but
Since house of bourbon is now done
Most of the other businesses in kentucky that might have considered private purchasing are now extremely nervous of a knock from the ABC people; so I’m gonna do my research but I may end up doing a 100$ raffle ticket
    600 tickets
    Roughly 109 bottles
Either do a winner take all raffle
Or two winners take 54 bottles

Yeah I read through those. When a licensed store buys vintage bottles from a private seller they have to report it to the state. Apparently that shop didn’t, among other violations. That doesn’t mean you can’t sell a portion of your collection locally. The vintage law makes it perfectly legal. If the shop doesn’t do the things they’re supposed to do on their end, in terms of paperwork, that’s their problem not yours. In a quick Google search I found a plethora of Kentucky based businesses advertising that they will buy vintage spirits from private sellers.

So you’ve got plenty of options, just dont know if it would pull the same prices as Unicorn.

The rest of my sentence said…
After house of bourbon got rung up
All the other stores got shy and aren’t purchasing anything.
I am well aware of the processes and laws regarding sales to Liqour stores and even restaurants.
    Additionally
Unless they are an antique alcohol store
Most stores/restaurants can’t afford to pay “secondary” for old bottles
They want it for the same price they get it off the Sazerac truck.

I am appreciative of your advice
Just not useful in the state of kentucky

    Additionally
I also had an ongoing conversation to purchase with revival vintage spirits
    But as I mentioned
When house of bourbon got their license yoinked
    All the stores got nervous
So revival said they aren’t looking to buy til January

    those are the only
    ONLY
2 stores in the state that do that with enough purchasing power to buy more than 1 or 2 bottles at a time

the other option is whiskey bear but he doesn’t like buffalo trace stuff
Only wanted 4R and similar stuff
    No BT products at all

Sorry to hear it. In that case guess you’re stuck with the secondary market and have to take your risks there. There are a zillion bourbon CL ads in Kentucky, not that that’s a smart way to go about it, but it’s certainly commonplace.

Hopefully you can develop some leads through your personal network.

You need a charitable gaming license or exemption to legally hold a raffle unfortunately.

Hope you figure something out man!

Yeah that was the conversation I was having last night
Is, should I find a facilitator for the raffle or just fully do the paperwork myself

oddly enough was also just having a conversation about driving into NC to go to southern spirits

Depends on cost each way and what cut the facilitator would get. Total business case decision. Tax considerations too…

1-2 in line at the store my mom were to camped out since 8pm
3-4 in line were camped out since 10pm

I’d understand that if there wasn’t a one bottle max and some really good stuff but damn, committed people out there
