At the front of the rear leaf spring mounts, where the frame is "doubled up" I have significant rot. I'm in TN and this truck has seen essentially no salt, like the equivalent of a few weeks in Buffalo/Detroit over 15 years, so this has to be very common.

Has anyone designed a "fix" for this?

I understand this will involve cutting and welding. I'm a very advanced home mechanic with a 220V MIG, a 220V massive air compressor, an OA torch.... all sorts of angle grinders, die grinders..... So I will be able to do this whether I fab something myself or purchase a "starter kit". I can cut out the old rot, torch out rivets..... and scab in a new bent plate that I fab....

But as common as this has to be, I'm wondering if anyone has made a set of "repair plates" for this.

Came to say the same re the Caps. I haven't personally used them but know someone who has, far as I know it's still holding up fine.

The key is dings a goo welder that will make good weld.
The hardest part is finding someone that will do it.
    Most don’t want the liability.

Thanks! I actually saw that link in another thread earlier today. Yikes, that frame was really bad (silver truck, new member).

It's on both sides. The passenger may be worse, but they are both looking pretty crappy. And I have another issue now near the front which popped up when I just jacked up the front RH to remove the tire for my fender liner removal. For that one I'm not sure what I'll do, I could either buy a repair section or just cut it out as it's flat plates there. Of course I'm sure that once I start cutting I'll find that it's 50X worse than what I can see. I've done rust repair before and know that's how it works. It's not just, "Oh I have a few pinholes, no problem." No, that entire area is rusting thru from the other side and you see the tip of the iceberg.

Good to see that someone makes some kits for this. I have a good Lincoln 220V / 170A rated output MIG welder and will do the repair myself. I had only planned to keep the truck for another two years, or so, but I won't be able to get much for it as-is. It has 180k miles and is otherwise excellent shape.

It really sucks that these frames are such junk, and Toyota let this go on for so long without addressing this issue. Did they NEVER ask Dana to perform salt spray tests on these frames? The design is terrible with the sandwiching / doubling of plates, and the paint on mine was obviously the equivalent of one coat of Rustoleum.
