I had posted earlier in the week about a significant rough idle on my tacoma when in drive at traffic lights. My thought was bad gas the dealer put in upon deliver and or the fact the truck sat for 4 months before being delivered with no fuel in the tank leading to possibly moisture in the tank. So I recently filled up with 93 octane Exxon top tier detergent fuel about 60 miles ago and added a bottle of Lucus fuel system treatment . I can report that the rough idle has mostly gone away. Idling today I could not even feel anything almost as if the truck wasn’t even running. Thought I’d share this.

Doesn't surprise me a bit. Others will be convinced it's all in your mind. I run premium in mine. . .because it runs smoother!

Dude this deff wasn’t in my mind. The truck was literally shaking but yes I’ve heard lots of reports better with 93 octane or top tier gas

I agree , top tier gas the truck does seem to run better . Not in my mind either . I alternate between 91 or 93 and sometimes 89 . I almost never use 87

I run the medium all the time and get better gas mileage. Then after 5 or 6 fill ups I run a tank of premium.

My 2.7L doesn't seem to run any better on mid grade or premium.

I think its more the V6 . It keeps the ignition in advanced mode . Which in my opinion ( if no one wants to shoot me here lol) makes the truck overall run better . Power , smoother. Again my opinion.

Deff strange . Only other thing I can think of is it had something to do with the engine breaking in more. Currently at 330 miles keeps getting smoother

I never understand people who put cheap gas in their car to save few $ or using bad oil/filters.. Like dude, you better pay few cents more now than buying new car in the future because your car is no longer running.

    Shame on that dealer.

I was brought up to put good food in your belly, and cheap gas in your car. Well, unfortunately it's become the other way around. I've only used top tier fuel since owned, or maybe I got gypped again by toyota, they didn't give me rough idle either.

Fyi, 93 has 10% ethanol in it, 91 doesn't have ethanol at all. Don't know if that the case everywhere, but it is around here. Northern WI, U.P. MI.

Check if plugs are tight. Clean TB. Check air filter and tubing connections. Try better fuel. Different brand or station. Higher octane may take afew tank fills. Several higher octane brands also have cleaning solutions sdded.

the owner’s manual recommends “TOP TIER” approved gas, and I think all the major brand gas stations have it. Costco’s gas is approved and I live close by one so basically that is all my cars get unless I’m on the road, in which case I’ll eat the cost and choose a Chevron or something. if you’re filling up at the corner mart then ya, you might run into fuel-related issues, as it goes against the manufacturer recommendation.

other than that, I see no reason to buy premium unless that’s what your engine is supposed to run on. it’s a truck, not a luxury car.

I think a can or two of dry gas would have solved the problem, you diagnostic of moisture was likely correct. I have read about gas with or without ethanol and of what I read engines expect what the manufacturers spec. 87 10% ethanol from a premium gas dealer, Shell, Mobil….. NOT joes gas and fuel oil.
