Oooh. Interesting. So there’s a voltage in the cutter that corresponds to that, and having the controller read it directly improves performance somehow?

I think the voltage is the actual cutting voltage and it varies based on resistance from the cut

That makes sense. Deeper cut > longer arc > more resistance I guess

It brews the best hotel quality coffee you'll ever forget about in your cup. Only like 2-3 cups per battery tho, not a great camping solution unless you're also regularly charging your batteries or bring a lot of them

What Zane said in a nut shell.

Arc voltage is measured, and the torch height control module moves the Z axis in the appropriate manner to maintain a programmed cut height all throughout the cut path.

This is especially important on stuff like 16 gauge or thinner, but can happen on 10 gauge if there are a lot of cuts close together.

Sometimes you can receive a steel sheet that isn't perfectly flat too so torch height control is perfect for this as deviation in cut height can lead to severe beveling.

Some weeks back my VIM module actually failed; more specifically a resistor burned out on the divided voltage side.

Divided voltage comes as 1:50 via the CPC port in the rear and that's how I had it running for +9 months.

When the whole ordeal happened, I decided to switch to raw voltage (while Langmuir sent me a new VIM module) and since, I've kept it that way. The raw voltage circuit is separate from the divided voltage circuit in the VIM module so I'm still using that old module with the new one sitting new in box as a back up.

This plug/port will just be a much cleaner method of plugging in for raw voltage.

Ah ok. Nice. I wonder why the resistor burned out - would be interesting to see if the new module is an updated design.

@Tour991 game tonight is painful reminder that the Kings should have locked down Korpisalo somehow or found a #1 goalie in his prime in the off-season. Gonna be a long year if they don't figure it out.

My theory is maybe there was a spike or something coming from the plasma cutter so I didn't want to risk it happening again
