All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
They make solid skids. I like them, BlackDog and Moose/AXG.

I had a long and very eventful day today.

As you guys might know, I have been looking for a used sport bike to track. Unfortunately anything under $5k was pretty beat and while I didn't need anything perfect, I didn't want to overpay either. I then saw a local dealership had new 2023 KTM RC390s discounted to $6.5k out the door and I started thinking.... why not just buy a new RC390 over a used and abused 600? The 2022+'s got a full redesign with a TFT dash, 3 axis IMU and lean sensitive ABS and TC so it was a no brainer for me as any used bike in that range wouldn't have such fancy electronics.

At the same time, I put out a WTB thread on one of the local forums and one member reached out to me about a 2007 Triumph Daytona 675 track bike with some mods and extras for $2k. The seller wasn't far from the dealer so I figured why not check that bike out too? We took my friend's '99 Ford F-250 so we had tons of room to spare for a second bike, and well, I bought both of them...

    The "extras" for the Triumph:

    upload_2023-10-14_21-35-37.jpg

The Triumph came with street fairings, multiple other sets of bodywork, spare wheels, gas tank, brakes, center pin stand, etc, and also has some upgrades like Penske shock, upgraded fork internals, Attack triple tree, and R6 brakes. Since I wasn't planning on spending another $2k today my friend and I will probably split it and it will be our back up track bike, though my goal is to get it in one piece and use it for my first few track days as I'm a little nervous about beating on a new bike at the track.

I've also ordered the crash bar set for the KTM and will get a few more upgrades for that as well. Now I have the winter season to break in the KTM and get comfortable on it as well as piece together the Triumph before the next season of riding.

That Triumph is a perfect bike. Especially for the price. You could yardsale the fuck out of it and not really be out much. Quick and nimble

Thanks! Technically the Grom was bought in August but yeah, 2023 has been a hell of a year for vehicle purchases...

The RC was mainly bought as a celebratory purchase for getting a new job.... finally.

I'm super excited to put it together this week!

    Here are some morning pictures:

    upload_2023-10-15_10-24-59.jpg

    upload_2023-10-15_10-25-9.jpg

I still haven't even put the key in the RC390...

@spencermarkd I'm tempted to follow your footsteps and make some videos on the RC... especially as I build it up a bit.

Akra exhaust and a stand. You scored. That bike is worth way more than 2 grand.

That Triumph sounds like a score. Penske shock, depending what model could run close to $1500 by itself. Nice thing with that is you can send that shock right to Penske and they will do a full rebuild at a very reasonable price. I got lucky last year and scored a used Penske shock for $250 on eBay and sent it there and for less than $200 they tore it completely apart, cleaned everything, and rebuilt it. Takes a few weeks depending on their workload but they can even swap out the spring to the correct weight for you.
