I feel like they won't do anything about this unless people start making a big stink out of it unfortunately. I submitted a ticket to Toyota (again), I know they probably won't do anything about it, though the problem still exists nonetheless..

Random datapoint. A friend of mine is getting his white Prius (blizzard white IIRC) repainted by toyota under recall.
Prius is 10 years old and has never seen a garage or a detailer.

2015 MGM checking in. I'm the 2nd owner and bought it at 30K in 2019. Faded within a year of me owning it. Obviously past the warranty period.

July 2023 update: Stage 5 paint cancer progression:
    • Hood (CC failing on entire hood)
    • Roof (CC mostly gone with color layer exposed)
    • Sills CC failing and mostly gone
    • Doors (CC failing, can't tell from the picture, but there's progression right above and below the windows.

And just to show that I actually do take care of my truck and still wash and wax regularly ("That's just neglect, bro"). She still cleans up nice, but my wife doesn't want to take my truck anywhere "nice", so it's been demoted to "beater" status because of the paint.

Estimate to re-paint is $4.5K for just the hood and Cab (bed seems OK) or $6.5K for the whole truck. Or $7.5K if I want to change to Cement. Then I was told by the shop I went to that "If you do nothing at all, just make sure to paint at least the roof. He then walked me over to show me my future, which was the below truck in his shop. Told me my girl had the risk of getting as bad as this black truck in about a year or two, even in California.

I'd like to also add that my wife's 2012 Touareg diesel has pristine paint after sitting outside in a stadium parking lot in Phoenix for 2.5 years waiting for the diesel fix and has been sitting in the same parking spot as my Tacoma for 3 years. That said, it's out of warranty now and I am scared.

I just can't understand how they get away with all this. My wife has a 2019 Rav4 (69 TSB's) and we already got 3 letters from Toyota that they are "working on a solution". the big one is that the gas tank doesn't get filled full unless you keep filling it after the safety click (Stops at about 9 gal and thank has 12) with the risk of filling it up to much. then is the roof rail water leak.... TSB are a quick way to fix a known problem. Hopefully your car has all those problems before your warranty expires, then you are stuck...
    the Tacoma has 993 TSB's.

    read this BS
    Background
Toyota has received customer reports of certain 2019-2020 model year RAV4 HV vehicle fuel gauges displaying
less than full and/or total fuel dispensed is less than expected, when the fuel nozzle automatically clicks off.
Some customer reports have also noted the “Distance to Empty” shown on the multi-information display is
    less than expected.
Based on our investigation, Toyota believes these conditions to be primarily related to a variation of fuel tank
shape and the potential for the fuel sender gauge to become inclined. These conditions can cause the fuel
level to be read incorrectly and may cause the low fuel light to illuminate with more fuel in the tank than usual.
Although the fuel tank and fuel sender gauge unit are covered by Toyota’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty for
normal Basic Warranty coverage period, 3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first), we at Toyota care
about the customers’ ownership experience. Toyota is providing coverage for repairs related to refueling
    performance concerns.
In the interest of customer satisfaction, Toyota first notified owners via first class mail between late May
2020 and mid-July 2020 about this program, informed owners that Toyota is working on the repair for
their vehicle, and that they will be re-notified when the repair becomes available.

I have a 2018 TRD Sport, with about 38k that is having issues with clear coat loss and paint fade on the cab. The blue is turning white, but it's not just weather, but definitely a factor defect of some sort, due to the exact square pattern of paint loss.

Took it into Servco Waipahu, and all they could due was give me the number for the local Toyota quality complaint line, due to being out of warranty. The service rep, did tell me that they've been seeing this issue come up lately, especially in a lot of the grey colors.

It'll be a shame if Toyota won't do a recall of some type on these trucks, since its obviously a defect.
I'm curious if anyone else has seen this issue in their 2018's, and if so, hopefully you file a complaint.IMG_4994.jpg

Somebody - somewhere along the line - repainted a section of that roof. And if you (the OP) have owned the truck since new and never had any paint work done, don't rule out a dealer or factory repair job before you bought it. They happen more often than you might think.

I purchased the truck brand new in Nov 2018, so must have been done at factory. The service rep, told me that he's seen several others that looked the same way. Yet, since out of warranty there's nothing they will do about it, unless it becomes a recall issue.

Looks to me like that occurred while the shipping protection was on it. That's too square to be any paint repair, they wouldn't do tape lines in the middle of a panel.

Hmmm, interesting observation! I've removed that protective film from more new Toyotas than I can count. The only problem I ever saw with it was on current generation Highlanders where a styling depression in the center of the hoods allowed the film to "flutter" during shipment causing marring in the paint. Of course, this looks like the film actually prevented UV damage to the roof quite some time down the road. Very odd since that's not what the film is designed to do.

What is the number for the Toyota Complaint line? I have a 2017 with a faded roof that Toyota painted and then 6 months later the hood started fading badly and now the top of the doors. Auto Nation says Toyota won’t do any more repair to this truck because it is out of warranty.

    1-800-suck- it!!.
No way in hell they will do a recall. Chevrolet had the paint peeling problem twice already and never did a recall and nobody forced them to have one.

The sun will ruin your paint no matter what truck brand you have and no matter how much you wash and wax.
Keeping it in the garage at home and work is the only way too protect against the suns uv rays.
