Anyway around reprogramming an ABS unit

As soon as someone gets home to help me I will bleed them.

 

Did you have the low brake pedal before you initially changed the module or was it just the unwanted ABS activation?

 

I had the bad pedal also even before I changed the module. The soft pedal started when the ABS and brake lights came on. Both lights came on at the same time.

 

I just bled each wheel. I started at right rear then left rear then went to front passenger side then driver side. I had no air in any of them. Took it for another test drive and everything still the same with no changes.

 

I'm really at a loss here, really hard to believe 3 ABS units in a row would all have the same electrical and hydraulic problems.

I still don't think the low voltage code has anything to do with the spongy brake pedal but without a way to plug the hydraulic ports one at a time there's not really a good way to isolate various parts of the hydraulic system.

Would really like to load test those powers and grounds too.

 

Can you think of anyway to load test it other then with a headlight and pigtail ?

 

I mean theoretically anything you could use to put a 5-10 amp load on those circuits, a typical headlight bulb draws around 5 amps. I have several assorted bulbs I've scavenged from old headlight assemblies that I put banana jacks on for load testing circuits.

 

Thank you. I have to work in the morning so I will figure something out. I’ll ask some electricians and Millwright’s on how to make something like that that would hook up to my headlights or something. I didn’t know what a banana jack was till I googled it. Lol.

 

Yea pretty much all standard meter leads, test leads, and back probes have banana jack ends on them so that's what I put on all my "custom" test equipment.

 

I learn something new everyday it seems like and I’ll be 48 next month.

 

Yea there's always something new to be learned no matter how old you are. If you work on vehicles you have to keep learning or you get left behind very quickly with all the tech they are putting on them now.

 

Yes in my opinion it is crazy what is under the hood now days.

 

Could I use just like bare wire ends into the wiring harness ? I’m still at work right now. Just thinking out loud. Lol

 

I wouldn't reccomend it, at best you would pop the fuse at worst you would let the smoke out of something.

You really dont need those, without test pins or backprobes they won't really do you any good.

I have them on my stuff because I have backprobes and other test leads to use with them, wasn't saying you needed them.

Earlier when you were talking about putting a wire in the terminals I was thinking you were talking about using a wire to short across the terminals.

 

Honestly what I had in my mind was go find the hot wire off the headlight. Then splice into it then run it to the + side of the wiring harness. Then go to the ground and do the same way. Just didn’t know if that would work or if it would harm anything.
