Truck Camping Photo Thread

Shaking down my new Tacoma setup. Made my own "bam beds" to sleep on. The GF was a little claustrophobic, but I found it comfortable. Overall, it worked out pretty good. Just a few tweaks as the trips go on.

 

Any photos of your DIY bam beds? What'd you make them out of?

 

Best I have. It's just 3/4" sanded ply. Home depot. Yes, there is some flex, but nothing concerning. Holds 2 of us and our pup.

 

Finally tested out my RTT. It was SO much nicer than sleeping in the bed Looking forward to more trips soon!

I will for sure do it again. I’m 5’8” so with the tailgate down I was perfectly comfortable. I used a Exped Duo mega mat which fits just right between the wheel wells. I think fitting two people in there would work but it would be cozy. Otherwise it was quiet, dark, and weather resistant. Set up/tear down was relatively easy as well. I just need to find the right sized bug net for summer time. Maybe mud will be an issue in the future but nobody got stuck during this trip so all my recovery gear stayed nice and clean.

 

Nice! What did you think of the Kelty tarp? I've been eyeing one at my REI and they look solid, but I'm concerned about setting it up on solo trips. Any tips?

 

It’s not bad to set up solo. I found that clipping the tarp to the truck and then staking in the corners fist before putting the pole in worked best. I wouldn’t sweat it if I were you.

 

i was looking at these kelty tarps yesterday. there is one with a bug net. would you swap over to that? i guess bugs would still get in from under the truck though

 

I’m trying a similar setup. But I have an undercover tonneau cover, 6 ft bed, and a SJK roadhouse tarp. Shakedown trip is this weekend. I’ll try to post pics afterwards. I got this bug net:

Naw, I’ll probably just sew my own bug net and put elastic band along the edge so it snugs up to the truck bed. I like being able to do fall/winter trips wide open without the net.

 

One of my favorite camping spots near my favorite rivers.

 

I know it's not 100% 12 volt but when I can get my diesel heater working it works like a champ. It's the back of the truck up within minutes and then I just turn it off until the morning. Or if I wake up and get chili I turn it on for a few minutes and then shut it off. It would be too hot to run all night.

I've been on the road a couple of months and I've used it about three or four nights. Maybe a little bit more. I just can't seem to get the thing working. I think there's air in the fuel line. Once it gets working though it's going to be good. I've looked at little mini heaters to work with my 1200 watt inverter. But I'm a little bit nervous running an electric heater off of my inverter for any length of time.

SWitched to an RTT on the Runner...iKamper 2 from the guys at Overland Truck store...great pricing...now just playing with the extras...the “Annex” is huge and “fiddly” to assemble...the Awning has lots of possibilities from wide open to draping over a gazebo to create a spare bug free gathering place...

 

Is that the GFC super lite? If so, how do you like it so far? I have been eyeing a RTT and not sure which one to get. I want a hard shell but don’t want to break the bank.
