I set out to replace the burned out center climate control bulb on my new 02 which I have done before without issue. But this time when I seperated the white part of the unit that has the controls on it from the black part of the unit the flat wire connecting them came loose. With much difficulty I put the wire back in and put the unit back together. Now when you push a/c the button lights up but the a/c does not come on. Has anyone ever dealt with this? Maybe I just don't have wire all the way in?

That seems strange, I’ve never had that bulb go out on my 97 and you have replaced it before?
Is there a wiring issue maybe or connection issue, socket issue

Unplug the harness from the HVAC controls and plug it back in. Might not be seated correctly.

I have never taken one apart. What do you mean flat wire? A ribbon cable? You may have put it in incorrectly.

Yes it was a ribbon cable. But the strangest thing happened this afternoon. I was installing a new drivers front seat belt and had disconnected the negative battery terminal to do so. After that job was complete and I reconnected the battery I decided to try the a/c button again. And just like that it was working! Has worked every time I checked it since

Both my climate control lights were burned out when I bought my truck, along with the AC button cap missing, you had to poke the hole with your sunglasses to click it on and off. Previous owner lives with it for 5 years, and it was an easy $58 fix

The AC button just slides in and out, and you don’t have to remove a single panel. Just pop it out with a pick. Originally you may have popped it out a bit when you did the bulbs.

Also the bulbs are pretty funny, super small and have a Green rubber boot over them, and cost $6ea at the dealer.

I never thought of that, but maybe I did pop the button out a bit. But like the dude said, I'm just rolling with it. So glad the a/c works!
