My son is lifting my 2005 TRD 2 inches with bilstein 5100 shocks. He wants to use blocks in the springs in the rear. I’m concerned this will make for a rough ride. Any suggestions on the best way to lift the rear for the smoothest ride possible?

Leaf springs sourced for the right application. Costs more but worth it.

It won’t make it any more “rough”. It can/might lead to more axle wrap.
You may also experience driveline vibration, but that goes for any lift. Any time you change the angles of the drive shaft, you run the risk of unwanted vibrations.

You also, may or may not experience a front end vibration too.
The needle bearing in the front differential doesn’t like lift @2”-2.5”.

All said, I would let the boy lift the truck.
I was a kid once too. Loved the truck and still have the memories of doing the work.
Worst case, fix any problems the “might” might arise later.

Thanks. Are there ways to fix any potential vibrations with the 2 inch lift?

    Yeah.
You can shim the rear axle to correct the angle, or drop the center carrier bearing.
If it’s the front, you can replace the needle bearing in the front differential with a bushing.
I have the bearing puller and install tool. I could loan them to you if you are close, I’m in East Tennessee.

But honestly, I’d install the lift and see what happens.
There is a 70% you will be just fine.

Yeah, that’s the bushing I used too.
I got the tools from them too.

OP, here is the needle bearing.
It the one that gives the trouble.

If he isnt wheeling hard, 1” blocks in the back are fine. People on here have group think and over stress the axle warp. Its unlikely with a small block

If you're not looking to spend a bunch of money and are unladen then as @andrewtheadventurer said a block will be just fine from a comfort standpoint. If you have a truck with a little bit of weight in the back I pick progressive AAL. The absolute best ride is going to come from a progressive leaf pack, but your cost will be quite a bit more as well.

Depends on the lift wanted and the constant weight in the bed. You mentioned wanting a 2 inch lift, so looking at leaf spring brands that will give 2 inches of lift and provide good suspension characteristics. I went with Dobinsons, and would recommend the 110-r for the best ride quality if you don’t have much or any additional weight.

Many options. Deaver, Old Man Emu, etc.

As others advised, just lift it and see if you have an issue before spending more money.
