Cheeky little buggers. I've heard they're very territorial.

Ferocactus Pilosus if I had to guess.

The baby is hugging the base of a portion of National Trail in South Mountain Park, about 1/4 mile east of where Ranger Trail intersects. Nestled in rocks, away from most of the wind. I have seen adults with all of their defenses but the small white one is new.

I know where to find it again so will check later to see if it green/bigger.

EDIT: On National Trail about 1/4 mile WEST (not east) of Ranger Trail) for any PHX locals.

The tiniest little cactus I've ever seen in the wild. This one was near the top of a large hill on the side of Hwy 85 in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

More undies. Because no trip is complete without me finding some random undies laying around

Those are from Costco. You could probably return them and get a partial refund.

    Mostly everybody wears underwear.

I personally still have 5 of the 6 pairs that come in that pack.

yeah! They were warming up on that old growth stump when I first heard them. Have you ever have them walk back to you chattering like that?

No, only time I've ever really heard them make sound is when they have noticed you (start peeping) and are getting ready to fly.

Maybe not as cool, but on a trail in a city park (yes, this trail is in a city park in PHX) ... a bird convention in the trail. Quail-like birds with funny fall-over tufts on their heads. They are everywhere in this park.
