So I went to take the truck in and was told the frame is rusted out especially in the back. Wondering what to do. 2001 Tacoma Dbl cab. I ran a across a video that described getting this SafeTCap product that gets welded on and found a shop that does it in my town on the SafeTCap website. Is this a viable option? Any idea what I would be looking at in cost?

The truck runs great, just seems a waste to send her to the junkyard.

I have the same question as the OP. I have a 2002 Xtra Cab 4x4 2.7L MT. Truck runs great and not ready to say goodbye to it yet. I would like to frame swap it, but can't find anything online selling rust-free frames. I've checked my local junk yards without any luck.

Same as OP, I have researched safe-T-caps. Seems like good reviews of them on tacomaworld.

My real question is, does anyone have a good resource for a rust free frame?

Maybe you could find a good frame from a wrecked truck on Copart. Just looked and there's a 2003 Xtra Cab up for auction but it is recorded as having frame damage

How bad is the frame? What sections do u need welded? If you just have a few spots u can do it. If there’s rot all over it will get real expensive real quick.

I will get some pics tomorrow and post. It looks rather rough where the leafsprings attach to the frame. I'm concerned there is not enough there to work with, but the pics will help you guys to provide feedback.

i have personally spoke with the technicians at autorust. The safe t caps can be mounted without an issue as long as there is 3/4 of an inch of metal at the top of the frame because that where it’s welded to. Where you are talking about is the most common spot and can likely be fixed at a fabricator or with safe t caps.

Thanks Squirt. I went down that road before, but don't know what I would do with the rest of the truck TBH. Seems crazy to buy a whole (albeit wrecked) taco just to get a frame.

If you go the Safe T Cap route, make sure you find someone that will do it right, this member is dealing with a misaligned bed.
