Yup. Fixing it wont be too bad. Roof is fixed by previous owner so they just covered this up.

This is the stuff I've been tripping over in this place.
I hate people, should absolutely be able to go after the previous owner for that. That was intentional, and dangerous.

IF I ever end up in a position to build, I'm doing a STEEL barndominium.
I have 2 different mechanical and weatherization/insulation designs roughed up depending on where I do it.
Otherwise, if things go completely sideways here(already on their way for us), we will just skip town, and move back. I'll figure out a way to cope with the pay-cut.....

Yep this house has a roof that is about 1-2 years old max. My neighbor had said that they had been patching the spot above this the entire time he lived there (~25 yrs).

The good news is I am confident I can fix it with timbers and a big steel brace and it wont bankrupt me. At the same time I'll add in insulation cause there is none.

It baffles me - someone drops, say, 200k on a project but looks at a section of it as 12k vs 14k and thinks "nah, I can't afford the extra 2 grand!"

My shed is jacked up on the back side. But it's a shed so... :notsure: I'm less fussed about that.

    That looks scary dangerous…
Dozens of years of leaks I would say to get thru that.

Steel beam that shit up! Or at least massive timbers you got around.

    Yeah, I hear ya.
But, in all honesty, as a metal person, and NOT a carpenter, I would find someone that is, and KNOWS wood... ahem @AllTacosFloat , and have them put their experienced eyes on it up close. Then, determine if you need an engineer, and a lawyer.

Timber frame especially. My house is. They aren't built the same. You can usually withstand losing a 2x6, with proper additional support. Timber isn't. I have columns all through my basement, making it essentially useless, and really tested my piping, and design doing my mechanicals.
But my experience, has ended up with both a carpenter AND an engineer.
Still haven't figured out the best way to jack the rest of the house up, as I found this after doing some significant renovation

I could be wrong, and it just LOOKS bad in the photo... but, again, I don't do wood .

Yeah I hear ya on that. I had a few people take a look at it and I will of course have john take a look if he comes up before I tackle this. Everyone has said I am on the right track so I feel good about it.

I started off in carpentry then went to engineering school.... and now I dick around with steel while working in engineering.

Its not too bad really ( theres a post to the left and to the right of the rot)

This is like something they discover on "This Old House" and they have an engineered beam made that ONLY adds $50K to the job and the homeowner shrugs it off...

Oh and I pray there are no carpenter ants..

So back THEN PM5K would do an entire set that was in a particular order like their album...it's meant to sort of tell a story/be a journey through the show...So they were touring the Stars Revolt album so their set was like this space opera journey tale...That's the best way I can describe it...pretty cool

True, Powerman is best seen in a small place. Last year with Rob Zombie time was limited..first time my brother in law saw them and I have been saying since that we have to go to a regular show by them. I did see Trivium a few years ago with DevilDriver and they were good, not a huge fan. Saw a pretty gnarly pit injury that night too.

DRI since about the mid 80s. My Facebook picture is me and Kurt hanging in the crowd at Metalfest 2013. Tell me you have heard his side project too.

Especially dumb to spend dollars for a roof and skip over an extra dime (figuratively). My roof sucked and when it leaked I spared no expense on the metal roof, sheathing, etc etc. Buy once cry once plus it's not like you can easily get to the underneath stuff after.

Hidden blessing at least re insulation.

Yup. Saw a few of those.

Offhand, no, I don't think I know of his side project? In fact, I had to look, and I was even aware he did a track track Probot.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Today is a sad sad day. We had to put our dog down. His name was Moose. I know a lot of you have met him before.

He was very old now, 16.5 years and had a lot of problems. His walking and his eyesight was really bad but he was still eating well. We didn't want to do it but he was loosing control of his bladder and even with his eating he was loosing weight so it was time.

RIP Moosey. You will be missed!!!!!!

Yeah dude I love that design. Girlfriend said if I wanna move to Idaho to do that, go ahead she’s staying lol.

so here I am. We might build a garage in the next five years so hopefully I may end up sort of getting my wish of an office over the garage lol
