Why did I think that southern Illinois had the countries largest white tail deer?

@lynyrd3 i know ya dont want to hear this but, according to you, and your physical issues, i personally would opt for the DD14, you will not find a more comfortable ladder stand on the market, i feel so strongly, that i would pay for the extension if im wrong. i made a mistake, the single has the extension, the double does not, i do however have 2 cushions in the double, makes it even more luxurious...and the extra "man spread" room is undeniable, for those 8-10 hr sits.

I definitely gotta get something better .Even if it’s next year
I have 2 ladder stands one only 2 years old with a nice seat . My stand I primarily rifle hunt in is not comfortable anymore . I also have a ladder stand that has no seat but I hung my Lone Wolf lock on above it . I’m done with lock ones and climbing sticks . Just can’t do it without physical consequences after hanging them .

I've only been climbing with sticks for 3 years, and while I really do enjoy being in a saddle, I absolutely hate the climbing method.. There's gotta be better ways to climb than sticks, besides ropes/rappelling gear to ascend.

    I've thought about this...

What if....there was a small platform (just big enough for your feet) that was basically shaped like a 'mini' platform from a climbing stand. You put the platform a couple of feet off of the ground (but at a slight angle like a climber), you stepped into platform and somehow strapped your feet to it, then hook up your saddle ropes way above your head and raised your legs (just like using a climber), then raise the ropes and repeat the process.
A person would still have to climb a somewhat straight trees without many limbs, but the whole set up wouldnt weigh much at all, just the saddle and maybe a 3 pound platform.

    Just something I've thought about.

I've actually thought about that too, and I've seen people use the bottom part of a climber to do this. I guess what turns me off of that, is you'd be introducing slack into your tether every time you moved it up, and contrary to what some saddle hunters think, a saddle is most definitely not a safety harness, and isn't designed/rated to withstand falls. I haven't really looked much into it, but I've heard of a two-tether method, where you could potentially run two tethers to prevent this. I think the ideal setup for that would be using some sort of aider/foot loop attached to one tether, so you're essentially just stepping up to advance the next tether until you're at the height you want. I haven't really looked into it because it seems rappelling down would be the only feasible solution, and I'm just not too familiar with that arena of gear. It does sound mighty nice though, cutting down all weight of sticks.

Several years ago there was a Mama San old doe in one of my archery spots.
Like clockwork, she'd come out and look up in the trees and start barking.
She busted me several times in the climber from a good distance away.
Figured that old doe was shot at more than once.
Ended up shooting her from a ground blind. That was that.
