Can anyone tell me what this sound is? Only happens while accelerating.

it’s a 2017 TRD off-road 2wd, about 88k miles. This sound happens everytime I accelerate. It doesn’t happen while idle only while pressing the gas, as soon as I let off the gas it quits instantly.

it’s kind of hard to hear in the video but I hit the gas and let off a few times so you can hear the difference. I’ve tried looking under the hood and having some one rev it but it won’t make the sound unless the truck is moving

It's difficult to hear, but what's coming through to me is engine ping. What kind of gas are you running?

Welcome to the forum. There are a few clues but I don’t have a definitive answer for you. Number one clue is that it only happens when the vehicle is in motion. As you know this makes it very difficult to diagnose. Drive train, engine under load (such as timing chain guides or tensioners). There’s some Toyota techs here so hopefully they will have some insight on this.

Just regular unleaded, it’s pretty hard to hear in the video, sorry about that. It’s more noticeable in person. I don’t really think it gets louder the faster I go but it’s always noticeable

Thanks and yeah I’m pretty good with vehicles and I’ve checked everything I know to check and I’ve had other people I know check and no one can pin point the noise. I just wanted to check here before I took it anywhere.

If you haven’t seen this before here’s some information about the 3.5L engine.
