If it's soy-based insulation, we've all got it. It's not a defect so not sure why warranty would be called upon. I've never had any issues and we've had mice.

Excellent first post by the way!

Jack, Jack, Jack. Take a deep breath.

You don't have soy based insulation. See post 11. @hiPSI is one of our sharper tools..

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wiring-harness-made-from-soy.707070/

Warranties don't cover wrecks, vandalism or acts of God.

Insurance does. Call your agent. After you have some Tums and a good night's sleep.

Sorry this happened OP. But I do have to say being a 2018 with only 10k miles on it, means she sits a lot in one place probably. So this will happen and unless you clean up real good or get a few cats, it may happen again. Keep it moving and they will move on. Oh and call the insurance company, and pay the deductible. Have the stealership fix it right.

Try leaving the hood up or led lights once you have it repaired. I’ve heard that Irish spring bar soap placed in engine bay cavities helps.

Get a 2nd opinion. If the dealer says $1000, you can get an independent shop to do it for as little as $50. The dealer isn't going to "repair" a wire. They will replace an entire wiring harness. Often 1/2 hour of labor and a little shrink wrap over the effected area is all that is needed.

I've had it happen 3 times. Twice on a Honda Fit that didn't get driven regularly. It needed a $200 wiring harness and $50 labor. The 2nd time there was only small piece of exposed wire. $50 and 30 minutes later I drove out of a transmission shop. Both times it was shifting funny and throwing codes indicating a bad transmission.

The 3rd time was with a Honda Rancher ATV. They chewed that one up BAD. Honda wanted $1400 to completely disassemble the machine and re-wire the whole thing. An independent guy took it in and agreed to work on during his downtime waiting on parts etc. It took him about 2 months, but he only charged me $350

Rodents will chew on anything, it doesn't matter whether it's soy based or pure hi-test hydrocarbon insulation or rubber hoses, they're gonna chew on it.

    Call your insurance agent.
