We've had vehicles come in with over $9k worth charges covered by insurance for mouse/rodent damage.

Most of it is labor, pulling everything out of a vehicle.

My truck had 10k worth of harnesses chewed before I bought it. Insurance- and then spray the inside with the hottest peppers you can find mixed into liquid.

 

We deal with this a lot at my dealer. Insurance covers it, if you have full coverage.

@Marshall R you are incorrect. Dealerships WILL and DO repair the harness. We make an assessment, and give the customer options. Sometimes a complete harness replacement is more cost effective repair, if there are a lot of wires damaged, or large sections damaged.

 

Rodents have been eating wires long before soy was ever used in the insulation....

 

We had a Toyota Corolla that was parked for a winter and got a mouse infestation. Discovered when I opened the door to move it so I could plow and got punched in the face by the Mike Tyson of mouse piss & shit smells. They literally shit and piss on every surface of the interior, so I closed the door and called my insurance company, and they sent out an adjuster that week. He opened the door, stuck his head in, then stood back and closed the door, and said your car is totaled. He said that given the level of interior damage that is beyond repair, the wiring harness is likely compromised as well. They towed it away and cut me a check that was higher than blue book at the time.
