T-SB-0045-23 driveline whine

Has anyone who is out of the 3yr/36k warranty purchased the parts and did it yourself? If so any obstacles that caused a problem?

I’ve been living with this noise for the past year and a half and ready to have it fixed

Toyota just released this TSB July 21st. Dealer wants $880.00to complete it as I am out of the 3yr/36months.

 

Classic case of could have should have would have, are you really ready or you think youre ready? I would not touch anything you dont know what your doing

Just order the parts yourself and fix it or order the parts and have a local mechanic do it for you it’s easy as pie

 

Has anyone had this done and does it actually fix the whine from the rear end?

 

Yes it will quite it down significantly in some trucks and completely resolve it in other trucks.

 

I had my rear end replaced by the dealership under warranty before this tsb came out and it whined as soon as I drove it out of the parking lot. My sweet spot is 53mph, interested in getting this done.

 

It’s because there’s nothing wrong with the rear diff. It’s vibrations transferring through the frame and cab. My brand new 2023 is making this noise at 53mph. Sweet spot. My last tacoma did it at 58mph. It’s not as loud on this truck but I have the tsb parts at my house I’ll get around to putting them on one of these days but honestly not even worried about it. Like I said my last truck did this so I just got used to it lol

 

Same here. I only later found out it’s “resonance” I was ready to live with it and it really didn’t bother me but if they have a fix and they are going to pay for it I might as well get er done.

 

Absolutely have Toyota fix it. I personally just bought the parts myself at my discount cost (I work in an auto body shop) I’d rather just do it myself then deal with the dealer. I’m not to fond of other people take the rear interior trim and parts out of my cab to install the foam damper pads.

 

Do you feel the foam dampers helped a lot? I added the body mount dampener with mixed results, tryin g to decide if it's worth tearing into the interior. Thanks

 

Yeah I think they do if they didn’t I don’t think Toyota would have bothered adding them to the tsb.

 

The body mount damper did help you though?

 

At first they almost completely stopped the howl but after a few thousand miles it came back. I'm tempted to remove them and drive around a few days to see if they are actually doing anything anymore.

So it’s just foam? Wtf

 

I have a 1/2 mile stretch of road I drive coming home from work everyday where I can keep the truck making the "noise". I put them on and when I first hit the road it would start making noise for a split second then completely stop. I could repeat the start and stop noise by carefully feathering the throttle but if I drove normally I would only get a blip of the noise then nothing. Then a month or so later the blip of noise started getting longer and longer until it seemed to be exactly the same as before. I pulled the harmonic dampeners and torqued the nuts again with no change. It sure has me scratching my head. Like I said earlier, I may pull them and see if they are at least reducing the noise and flip flop them side to side when I put them back on.

 

I’ll be ordering the parts called out in the T-SB this week. I hope this the remedy.
