radio.jpg I recently bought a 2018 Tacoma with a radio that is pretty much basic. What factory radio can I swap in that has carplay capabilities? Thanks

I would check Crutchfield for a head unit in your budget. Whatever they swell will usually come with any adapters or harnesses that you will need to plug and play.

I think it's closer to $800 but it includes the Maestro controller that keeps you steering wheel controls and all the other vehicle specific stuff like interior light timers ect. I compared crutchfield pricing the radio, maestro, wiring harness and dash kit and it was only like $50 dollars difference. When you get it from these guys everything is already programmed to work with your vehicle so it is 100% plug and play. I did the install in about 30 min including running the wiring for the microphone.

Maestro is far more than $40. Plus it comes flashed and everything is plug and play.

It is a dead market these days. Bring back 1990 when unless you had an Alpine or Blaupunkt, you weren't anybody.

    minor tweaks
I've always been a Kenwood guy, I went through Crutchfield since I didn't want to dick around seeing what worked with what and finding the correct kit etc... no complaints, It was $776 with the Maestro, harness and bezel kit, 4yrs ago so it'll be more now. It's a great stereo w/ Nav and the radio displays OBD info as gauges on a secondary page in the system menu plus it'll let you reset DTCs. Of course DVD and all the bells and whistles plus a nice integration with the JBL speaker system and the rest of the truck. The prev system I purchased failed miserably at that last part. There was one hickup (a missing cable) but Crutchfield took care of it overnight and I ended up with an extra maestro out of the deal. I'd go back to them tomorrow if I needed another system.

It was plug and play except for the maestro programming which was simple and it alowed me to choose the dual functions of all the steering wheel controls.
