Even 500 mile range would be great. That could easily get me to a ski hill and back on a single charge. And I'd be able to blast music in the parking lot and dry out my gloves and gear

Jeez just when I thought Toyota couldn't get any more stupid - From the article “Ammonia is hellish to handle,” he said. “I can’t see it taking off in passenger cars.” Ignoring all of the other problems ammonia isn't green, it's made using natural gas. Another problem is if you burn ANYTHING in an internal combustion engine you will create Nitrogen Oxides, better known as smog. It would be far more efficient, and greener, to burn that natural gas in an electric generator plant and charge an EV.

I don't know how many of you have seen Alpha Motors but I have to say their design for the Wolf is in my opinion the best so far in the EV pickup space. A really cool design combination that reminds me of the old Datsuns crossed over with some of that barwork that is loved on older Toyotas.

Here is the page to the Wolf. They also have a bunch of different levels of the Wolf but the single cab version is too sick. I think the world has been missing midsize single cabs for awhile!

I agree, But I"ve been following Wolf for 4-5 years and they are just a vaporware company. They got pressured on showing a vehicle they promised and ended up showing a clay model. I love some of their cars too but I must say they have some of the best graphic artists in the industry. Those vehicles all look very real.

Ah man, I didn't realize that they flubbed a showing. As with every EV brand I have so many thoughts creep into my head whenever I see anything that looks cool - most of which are "too good to be true" and "how are they gonna fit a battery pack in that small of a chassis".

In any case, definitely rooting for their success. I would love to see some of these guys think about the hydrogen fuel cell route too!

By the way, love your LC80!

Yeh I was following them for a while and they have a video of a truck driving around but I could see them faking that too. BUt at least someone should buy their designs and make their trucks and cars. ANyway, thanks I love my LC it's been out of commission for a while since the previous owner decided to not change the oil enough and my timing chain guides went. Pretty expensive fix requiring a motor pull. But it's worth keeping and fixing it. :)

    Oh What a Feeling!!!....

This is why Toyota would rather wait a little and get the longer range and faster charging time batteries than rush out a model to appease the impatient buyers like they did with the Bz4x.

Study Reveals 31% Of US Likely To Buy EVs, Toyota Preference
57% of the respondents said they are not likely to purchase an EV as their next vehicle.

Sounds like they trust toyota and they're willing to wait and give the company time to get it right

What do you guys think of the plug in hybrids? I am considering a Lexus RX450H where I could do almost all of my local day to day activities on electric and if I need to go farther I have a basic hybrid. Anyone have that car and if you do what do you think? How fast can it go on EV only? like 45?

So how far, how often, and where do you need to go "farther"? What is your average daily drive? What's the cost on that Lexus? Can you have a 240 volt charger installed at home? Those answers will help with the is an EV or PHEV right for me question.

My commutes are about 11 miles round trip and 1.8 miles... lol I barely use them and could walk the short one if my kid didn't complain so much. The PHEV I saw can use a standard 120v but I have no issues installing a 240 if need be. Taco gets horrible mpg on those tiny trips. Longer is maybe a few times a month of say 65 miles round trip or so and once in a stupid blue moon I'll drive 550 miles in a day to pick up a clodbuster lol.

Hybrid and EV are perfect around town and ICE are gas hogs around town. I'm under 7 miles from work staying under 50 mph. An EV is perfect for my work vehicle.

I'm not a fan of PHEV, worst of both worlds IMO. Limited range on the EV side and all the maintenance of a gas engine. For your uses it seems a shame to lug around a gas engine for a once in a blue moon kind of drive. When I was first thinking about buying an EV ranges were under 100 miles. My plan was to use my Tacoma for any long trips and drive the EV for everything else. You could do the same thing, pick up a Bolt or Leaf for the daily stuff and use the truck for the blue moon drives. Covid put a damper on my EV plans and by the time things had sorted themselves out I wanted a Tesla Model Y, bad. I wouldn't give even a second thought to driving it 550 miles, but until the Super Charger network is opened up to other EV's I'm not sure how I'd feel about that drive in another brand.

edit - So a quick google says the Lexus 450 PHEV starts at $70,000 . A Tesla Model Y performance is only $52,500 and $45,000 after incentives. OK, I'm biased but the Lexus would have to be pretty damn special to warrant the extra $25K in price.
