I was given an older Softopper, without the attachement system, clamps, I assume?
It was used on a 2009, and seems to fit my 2012 at first glance.

I did not find yet an install PDF on company site. Any known source?

    - what was the original clamping system like and where installed? Two styles are shown on the official generic install video on YT.

    - if you have one of the generation, how does it look like, stock mount, or DIY?

The unit needs a good cleaning, in and out. Suggestions?

Contact Softopper directly and they should be able to get you what you need unless the parts aren't available anymore. They have been awesome in helping me get replacement parts for mine, even ones which weren't listed on their site. I wasn't even aware there was an older model (in terms of the clamps at least).

These are the clamps that mine uses. Not sure if there was an earlier version or not.

    Thanks, I did see these.
Do you slide the tensioner part (small L) into the Taco rail, or just under?
In other words.is the clamp unit positively captive?

Are you just missing the clamps? If so this is what they look like on my ‘08.

    Yep, just the clamps.
Thanks for the photo, mounting on like I thought it would.

Now, four clamps, or more, for, say, the middle of the beam length?

The clamp slips into the slot and then when you tighten it down it moves upward and locks into place. You do not have to slide it into the end of the rail - that would be a huge PITA. That said, you do want to be careful that you get it seated in there all the way. It's easy to tighten it down without it fully "locking" into place.

4 are sufficient and the amount which ship with a new softopper. 6 would be ideal, IMO.

They sent four, but I ordered two more since I have a long bed. Not sure it makes a difference, but figured it can’t hurt.
