All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    Ahhhh it makes sense now.

Too fat and the price shows it. Imagine it scaled down to 500 lbs. and $10K cheaper.

    I dig the look.

Does it seem to have more room for your shins vs the R1200/1250? Seems like there's more room but hard to tell without knowing how tall the guy in the picture is.

I think it's already a little lighter than the outgoing gen? No hope on the price though. :(

I think its 525lbs wet. Not sure on price but I heard someone say $22-24k. Not sure what they were referring to.

I actually didnt sit on it. Came to check it out, but still love my AT. Even though the features seem out of date compared to this.. I do have touch screen and apple car play, and the BMW does not.

Has features like adaptive cruise, and BSM. Also suspension/dampening will adjust to your weight automatically, not through a setting. And when you put center stand down, suspension raises itself to help you

525 pounds isn't bad, but I bet that's the base model that doesn't have all the bells and whistles. Same goes for the price. Bare bones nothing added and in the free color it's at $19,590, so tack on whatever fees and freight items and the stripped bike is over $20K. Now, that's not completely devoid of features, and it's going to be powerful, but you have to decide if there isn't a better bike for the money. No quickshifter, no fancy lights, no rider modes, no skid, no nothing in that $20K+ price point.

    upload_2023-10-19_18-11-44.png

If you want one of the two cheaper colors (blue or black), the better exhaust, and the premium package the price rockets up to $25,545.

    upload_2023-10-19_18-20-26.png

I hear you. "But I don't need the premium package. Just a few select options. Well, here is the premium package, and all the items in it are ONLY available in the package. You cannot get any of these features on their own. So if just one of them is a must have... well you are going to be buying all of them. Ride modes? Gotta buy it all. Quick shifter? Again, gotta buy it all. That cool auto adjusting suspension? All. Of. It.

    upload_2023-10-19_18-24-27.png

And if you want the everything they sell on it plus the green paint job...

    upload_2023-10-19_18-29-15.png

Don't get me wrong, I think it's body lines are sexy and the performance is going to be epic. I just don't think it's worth nearly double what something like an Africa Twin, Super Tenere, or FJR1300 is.

Ugh, I really, really hate how BMW does that. They even go as far as adding all the premium package options as individual options with a $0 next to it, so clicking on any of them adds the $4k to the price. Seems kind of insulting.

It still feels like there's no one perfect bike out there for me. Well, there is, but it's not sold in the US.

Just to add in another viewpoint, base goldwing is $26K, with options you can easily push that over $35,000. And, i just configured at $20K Africa Twin, without an exhaust lol. I'd say even up configured like this, the GS1300 still would be worth the extra 25%. People group the AT in with the GS12XX/1300's, the KTM 1190/1290, but man, I just don't see it. I've always thought those two were just leaps and bounds more touring-worthy and premium than the AT. I still think AT is more similar to the 800 and 900's middleweights than the 1200+ cc bois.

It's great marketing. Put the one or two features that people really want into a bundle with a bunch of shit they'd pass on. 80% will buy the BS to get the one or two things they actually want.

    What is your perfect bike?

People probably also buy the premium package for resale when most of these bikes are invariably sold in a few years after a few thousand miles. :D

My dream bike, on paper anyways, is the Honda NT1100, basically the sport touring version of the AT:

I agree with a lot of that. The AT is at it's best in the base format that is geared less toward touring, because that's not what is at it's core. The Adventure Sports is a square peg in a round hole, but they put some of the nicer features that people would want on the base into that trim to force the sales. Kinda like a GS1250/1300 having any kind of "dirt" package. It's kinda ok, but it's more for touring. Just like the AT is kinda ok for touring, but better suited not touring. A liter bike just can't be a proper jack of all trades, IMO. They are going to fail too much somewhere else.

Now, there are exceptions to the downfalls. Look at what Joceline snow does on a big fat GS1250, but realistically the average buyer of a GS1250 is not going to take it into crazy shit. Same way the T7 was marketed with Pol Tarres doing amazing things on it, but 99% of the T7s will not be owned by riders of that caliber.

One more data point to poke the bear. The ducati multistrada v4 STARTS at 27K for the base, with the V4 RS starting at 38K, BMW is starting look like a bargain

Ah, that I don't see coming over. I think they are afraid of cannibalizing the Goldwing sales, because it would have to be much cheaper to compete with stuff like the FJR1300.

Have you looked at the Honda VFR1200X? They discontinued it, but they can be found for not a lot of money and would be similar purpose. A bit heavier, but also a V4 engine on them. I was eyeing them before really checking into the Super Tenere.

Yep, I'm not sure if Europe gets the Goldwing but with that existing here they won't bring the NT over, which is a shame because I think it would be more popular than the Wing.

I don't like the VFR's 19/17 spoke wheel setup or slightly higher ground clearance. I'd never take it off road so I don't want something that is even remotely geared towards it. The reason I'm not a fan of the ADV stuff is because I know I'll never go off road so I'd be paying the off road penalty with the taller suspension and wheels/tires on road without ever actually using them.

That's kinda like saying a Supra is a steal compared to a Huracán while we are talking about a WRX....

Understandable. I prefer the seating position of the ADV bikes, personally. That's what pushes me over to the Super Ten instead of the FJR that is way way more potent of a bike. I will never use the ground clearance for more than my shitty road and the occasional logging road at most, but on the street it does add visibility to other drivers along with providing a better view of what's going on around me. To each their own, of course.

Would you consider the FJR, then? I sad on it, and if it weren't for the foot peg position... I might take it over the Super Ten.

The new AT Adventure Sports is aimed at more touring, and the base and lower models are aimed at offroad. Or at least with the 24 and the new wheel configuration. Who knows if or when the US will ever get the 24 AT though

This would be the AT for me. Price is obviously not the thing stopping me when I am looking at a Super Tenere that is right at the same price, though. If they made the AT with a shaft drive, I'd buy it tomorrow.

Even the older AT ADV Sports were for touring. The fatter gas tank is the big thing for that. It's more range at the cost of more shifting weight up high. 100% no benefit for the dirt crowd and all about luring in the touring buyers.
