    Actually, Pima Wash (maybe it is Beverly Canyon at that point). Having just dropped off Ridgeline using that connector and heading back to the ramada. They are changing trail names and the trails around the Pima Trailhead ramada could already be confusing.

    Fun place to be lost if you are not sure about which trail.

    Wonder if they’ve been somehow domesticated in some way. Maybe hand fed at some point. I’ve met guys that raise quail and other small game birds and they claim some act odd when released. Are there any farms nearby?

    I was trying to jump a Roosevelt elk out of bed along the West Branch of the Humptulips River at the time. It’s pretty remote county.
    There were a couple times that one chased my vehicle down the road. It seems like they caught their reflection in the window and were chasing a rival bird away from a territory?? One in New England one on the UP.

    Most the time they light out like greased lightning when approached. If you’re hunting them, you might get that chatter just before they fly like LD suggested. Only chance you get without a dog!

    Aldo Leopold loved them. I think “Red lanterns” was all about them. No?

    A while back some idiot was dressing up like Bigfoot and jumping out of the woods at night, and then running in front of cars to scare people as a prank. Well one person said, NOPE! I’m taking Bigfoot out, and ran over the dude, killing him instantly.
    If there was an all time great Darwin Award, this dummy would have gotten it.
