Hello, I am considering buying this 2nd gen 2005. It has 130k miles and is listed for just under $11k. I am unfamiliar with the classic marking and the 4x4 sport off road on a 4 cylinder. This model is clearly 4wd 4 cyl stick shift. Can anyone give me an oppinion on these markings and the truck overall? I'll include some frame shots in case anyone sees anything I dont under there as well.

    Thanks!

Sorry for any issues with multiple of the same photo this is my first post and I'm learning.

They didn’t make a sport or off-road with a 2.7L 4 cylinder. The stickers are also not original.

BTW, Sport and Off-road were two separate packages. You can’t have both.

Thanks TnShooter. I figured as much. Do you know what the 'classic' is? Im assuming its basically just a stock model which Im actually ok with at the price and mileage.

The "classic" badge is not stock either

    I can’t stand false stickers.
I have little respect for people that do that crap.

Anyways, the “classic” is the classic BS some guys like stick on and mislead others into thinking something is, what it isn’t. There is no “Classic” option on these trucks.

Honestly, unless the price is “great”, I would NOT deal a person that does that crap to a truck. They’ve already started out by try to deceive you. What else are they going to be deceptive about?

Thanks all. This has pretty much confirmed my suspicions. I'll ask about the sticker. Overall Im still very interested in the truck at $10k with 130k miles. Finding 4 cyl 4wd manuals without a ton of mileage for this price without horrible frame rust has been pretty tricky for me. I'm open to others opinions though on the overall price and state of the truck. I'm still waiting on service records so that will tell me a lot about how it was treated.

Yes. I can see the switch in the photos. Good question though.

Ah, the rare Toyota Tacoma classic sport off-road. Only 1 made ever. That’s one rare gem

I would definitely remove the false stickers and decals after purchasing.

    4 run, 2 don't
Decals looking newer than the truck is the dead giveaway for anyone not familiar with Tacoma trim packages.

Same with the completely different 'Classic' badging compared to the rest of the truck.

Man, for a "clean frame" those are some rusted ass bolts.

The only thing I have good to say about that truck is that the 2.7 and 5 spd manual is a great package. They last forever as long as you change the oil by it at 5k miles. The 2.7 doesn’t have much power, but you can’t really kill them.

It’s probably a good truck. It’s the seller I’d be worried about.

Given its placement. Id imagine the truck was sold at a dealer named "classic something" in its lifetime. That looks alot like our emblems that they slap on everyone new/used we sell at the dealer.

I have nothing against stickers and decals that don't belong on the truck as long as it's not advertised as such when someone is selling it, if they are selling it as a plain 2.7L manual 4x4 that's fine but if they are trying to pass it off as a TRD Sport/OffRoad stay away.

Yeah thanks for the bolt comment. I moved east from California so the rust stuff is a new beast to me. Its really hard to tell whats going on with the frames of these trucks that have been undercoated. The bolts are a good indicator. Given the deceptive stickers, Im definitely skeptical about the frame condition.

Good point. Nothing here claiming to be anything other than what it is in the text descriptions. Thats also one thing I thought was interesting about the sticker is that it doesn't say TRD on it. It strikes me as more enthusiastic than identifying.

Yes I previously had a 98 first gen same configuration but mine was SR5. I would call this configuration "classic" (bad joke). The only thing Im worried about at this point is really the frame. I also want to see some service records before purchase.

I believe there’s a Toyota site you put in the vin and it tells you what it is.

Someone I work with drives a police interceptor ford transit van.

Way more of a telling sign than decals. Check this frame out carefully.
