I actually imagined it being way worse of a process, but yeah, this is a thing of beauty in my opinion.....

and it only take 16 minutes! :)

Probably not the same, but Mercedes-Benz recently issued a 20 year warranty on part of the frame on their vehicles. It attaches to main frame and has something to do with rear suspension. However, the warranty is due to rusting. Doubt Toyota would help you out at this point though.

That would be one hell of a dealership who offered to replace a Tacoma frame because Mercedes Benz is replacing subframes on their sedans. Wouldn't even make any sense.

I don't understand the reluctance of people to have metal welded into the frame. I realize it is not optimal, but it is a reasonable way to repair frame damage due to rust.

I've had frames repaired in the past (and have welded some patches on myself) and continued to drive the vehicles for years after.

In general, spending $1000 to $2000 per year in repairs is a lot cheaper than buying new or even used, especially if you like the vehicle.

    $3500 for the repairs.
I saw on one of these Tacoma forums some where that a dealership was doing complete frame replacements for about $6000. I'd go with that, and rustproof it.

i think the issue is the stupid laminated frame eats from the inside out. Once you see it its too late. On that note, the treatment Toyota completed mixed with regular sprays of fluid film seem to be helping, or i could be in for a surprise one day like you.

No. Not talking about dealer at all. M-B determined that there was a manufacturing defect on their part and then determined to provide a 20 year warranty.
What I meant was that perhaps Toyota Corp. might have a policy that would help in this situation. Or they might just do a partial payment deal for good will. Although I doubt it. But sometimes corporations will do things that surprise you.
Most manufactures have policies to cover problems that show up years later, but they do not often publicize it. M-B did.

Thank you for the tip but I called Toyota and they told me to kick rocks.

A costly oversight. A smart person would have brought it in for inspection one month before the 12 years ticked. Life got in the way and I didn't do that.

That doesn't mean they would have done anything took mine in several times but my local dealer said all's well no issues. You missed recall, but was there before ended. They are told not to look hard.
Mine wasn't as bad but every tacoma has rust on the passenger side because of the A/C drain that goes right down onto the frame in the exact same spot. Had a fabricator fix and check whole frame and undercoat.
    End Rant.

Nobody is safe from rust... even in California... Caltrans uses road salts to melt ice in particular in the mountains according to my brother... he is a 30-year Caltrans state employee... whatcha you don't know can't hurt you...

Did the fabricator cut out that section and replace with new or use cladding? What did it run you if you don't mind my asking

New patch! He used to work for Toyota and Dodge. I'll tell ya @Squirt put you on the right place or in the right direction. Find a fabricator show them what you got and what you want to do might not bee to bad cost wise.
My Toyota dealer quoted me $17,000.00 in labor but the frame is only like $3,000.00. I the picture you posted the worst of it? If so maybe not too bad.

There was one guy here who posted up his rust issues because he simply lives near the beach in California and the constant sea breeze makes the air always salty.

Yeah, I saw a local fabricator who worked at a body shop for 20+ years and now does frame repairs out of his home shop. Well reviewed and seems like a genuine dude. Quoted 3500 to cut out the bad stuff and fabricate new, front passenger corner spreading toward the middle and down the side. He said the rest of the frame wasn't bad at all and with some cleanup and yearly fluid film I'd be in good shape.

I am getting a 2nd opinion from an authorized autorust.com installer early next week.

Each case is different. And where you live has a play in prices. My cost was in the neighborhood of if I remember correctly about $1000.00 for everything.

I had it checked in 2019 and it passed. Got a job with a work truck and didn't give it much thought after.
