I came to the conclusion about 10 years ago that upgrades interfere with acquisitions and liquidity. $1,000 MkIII is a beautiful thing, but I couldn’t have afforded my 3 MKIIs. Plus, I recently bailed on my unmodified MKII heavy stainless and used the cash for my unmodified Tisas 1911. My skills are always the limiting factor with performance anyway.

I’ve hit a point in my collection that my wife can’t identify anything new.

It seems I modify everything I own...

To me, shooting a $1000 MKIII is much more enjoyable than shooting a stock one.

My and my wife's finances are combined and I manage them but we both talk with each other about big purchases (usually over ~$150-200). I knew I reached a milestone in my marriage when I told my wife "I've kinda been thinking about buying [gun]" and the response was "I don't know why you ask anymore. I know you're going to do what you want. Just make sure we can pay our bills." Fortunately our priorities in life are fairly consistent so it's not an issue.

I have the same setup on my MKIV (even got the gold/black lite model). It's so much fun with the oculus!

In my opinion the best bang for your buck upgrade is the Tandemkross blast pack. $79 gets you a target hammer, sear, and magazine disconnect delete. Plus you get to keep the sweet gold trigger! (we all know that's why you picked that one... I know I did)

    https://www.tandemkross.com/blast_pack-ruger-mk_series-2245

Don't bother with a bull barrel, it completely defeats the point of the lite model. I can still ring 8" plates at 100 yards with iron sites and the stock barrel on mine.

If she would believe that then is their really any point to lying? If she were that naive I could tell her all the gun stuff is gardening and crafts tools for her lol

I think a lot of it comes from your shooting background. My Dad and I have fairly large collections that constantly change. We have our share of modified stuff, but they are purpose built guns with class limitations for the type of match we were competing in at the time. Since neither of us compete anymore, most of our stuff is historic or collectible. Mods are limited to period accessories that don’t require holes to be drilled. If my rifles have swivels, they get slings. If they have dovetails or are tapped at the factory then they get scopes. I spend hours at shows looking for vintage stuff at the right price.

If you’re careful, the sport doesn’t really cost much money compared to a lot of sports (ammo aside) It just ties up money.

It really does require an understanding spouse.

Once I get this kitchen remodel down I think I've racked up enough credit for a few gun buys.

Yankee Marshall (is he still around?) used to post his guns in videos with the serial numbers visible. People commented on it and he addressed it by explaining all legally purchased and not an issue. Plenty of paperwork to back up his legal and rightful ownership.

But then some anti gun nuts called his pistols in to the police as stolen and YM had to go through a ton of BS to prove they were his. Unnecessary time suck. You do you. Probably a 99% chance nothing comes of it. But if I could remove that 1% chance it would, I would do it. It's too easy.

I won’t make a habit of it but I guess hadn’t given it much thought. Hopefully the person that call them in as stolen were arrested for fraudulent crime reporting. I have a binder filled with all my 4473 forms that I laminate and index so it would be pretty easy to prove ownership.

But they are both good for... Wait. Now I'm confused.
If you've never defended your home with an AR, you are missing out. But then if you've never defended your home with a shotgun, you are missing out.
And then if you have never had fun with an AR, then you are missing out. And if you have never had fun with a shotgun you are definitely definitely missing out.

    upload_2023-10-20_15-31-6.jpg

Go have FUN and DEFEND YOUR HOME with BOTH! Nice pick up there!

That is more of being a Internet personality, but point taken.

I’ve also heard of serial numbers being used in making a throw away gun and stamping someone else’s serial number in it. Can excellent police work tell? They should…but there’s communities that have 3 people in a depart without any degree or special training….so just depends.

This comes from an understanding of what they are used for, registration. And what IS any registration for? What’s going where and to who.

Home made guns with repeat (stolen) serial numbers..used in crimes…disrupts investigations.
