You can always get your feet wet with a supercharger as it is much more bolt on, and you still can learn a lot.

A SC is tempting but I don't like the idea of another belt for my engine to spin. Also living and driving at 7500' makes me want a turbo... but this is mostly from the (bad?) wisdom that a turbo is more helpful at elevation. Not to mention sweet turbo noises, lets be honest!
Either way, I have too many parts sitting on the workbench that need attention before I open another can of worms :smack:

Yeah I figured the same thing eventually. I ended up going through a different dealership to get them. I’ve got new uppers and lowers coming in on Monday from Ourisman Toyota in Richmond. I just looked it up McGeorge to compare prices and I guess they’re the same thing. The whole order plus shipping was cheaper than getting just the lowers from my local dealership.

    Highest numbers I've seen is 340-360hp and 440ftlbs on 20psi on a built 5vz.

Also have seen someone running 18 I think on stock block. Not sure how long it lasted, but was in the 320-330hp range.

It's not an extra belt. You just use a longer one for it on one of th accessory belts, but I can't remember which one off hand.

And boost in any form helps at elevation. Turbo noises are fun but the mechanical ger whine from the supercharger has its own excitement to it.

I have been chewing that over. I'd need a new passenger fender as this one is already chopped TF up. I was thinking 3" it would be an immense upgrade. A boost controller will be in my stage two of development. that and redoing the fuel railing/regulating.
Do you log directly onto the CPU and change the tune for 87? or whats your method of management between that. That's a wise thing I'd like to incorporate. Also where'd you house the computer? ive got it kind of slid into the stock ecm location.

as for the quick spool no, I am completely ignorant to what this is and what its about. but I can guess by description xD

18lbs stock block sounds scary as all hell.

Ah you're still totally on gate? Dude, you're in for some real fun with a boost solenoid wired in next. You can really get that thing wound up fast and keep it nice and steady. Quickspool is a nice feature that completely traps the gate shut with boost pressure and only goes into normal boost control function when you near your set boost so it builds as fast as possible.

I put the Haltech ECU in the exact same spot as the stock computer. I got a broken 4Runner computer from @Tour991 and gutted it so I could make this...

Even ran my vacuum line in the harness when I had it all opened up to take out extraneous stock crap and rewire a couple things. Keeps it nice and clean in the engine bay and runs it all back to the stock location easily so there isn't a lot of dash clutter.

Do it! I knew next to nothing about forced induction at the beginning of the year. Got my first turbo back in February and install it in July. Even with just 2-4 lbs of boost and the stock computer I'm loving it.

Can I ask you fellas that have gone down the turbo route with your 5vz's did you all use your stock 20+ year old motors, with higher mileage on them when you started the turbo project? Or did anyone get a rebuild or low-mileage 5vz before adding their turbo?

My truck has nearly 290k miles, and still runs like a top. Currently it's my daily driver but I'm shopping around for a 2.5 gen Tundra to daily, and then the Tacoma can become the project truck and get all sorts of goodies to include a turbo kit. Should I budget for a rebuild, or lower mileage motor, before adding boost or just send it?

Buy a Tundra and then turbo the taco just to realize that the Turboed taco should have been the DD all along

First kid will be here in the next week and the wifey and I want 3 or 4, so the taco just won't work (but I'll never sell it because it's the best vehicle I've ever owned). Kinda thought about getting a second 1st gen taco (double cab) to daily, but those crewmax Tundras are just so damn roomy

Get an 8psi wastegate, some fuel management, and slappher on there, you'd do great!

I really like the extra space inside the second gen double cab Tacomas. Way more storage space than the 1st Gens but the small size comes in handy off road in the brush

Yea I love my Xtra Cab, to me it makes the ideal hunting truck (slips down some super narrow 2-trackers so easily). But I'm quite excited to upsize my daily driver. I'm already hurting for space if I decide to go grocery shopping on my way home from work in it. Throw in a kids car seat too and it'll be a nearly untenable situation

I also slapped it on at 300k. Send it. If compression is in spec you can't go wrong. If it's low... isn't that better?
