I did the carrier bearing. Wasn’t noticing any vibrations but figured it was good insurance. Personally, I wouldn’t do shims unless necessary

 

I have option 3 with carrier bearing drop and no shims. I have no vibrations. Been on this setup for 4 months now and love the way it drive on and off road!

 

Will get that ordered then. Probably worth it. What shocks you running? I have a newly installed set of the stock bilsteins. Will these work with the new springs or will my down travel be limited or dangerous (like with a spacer lift)?

 

I have Elka 2.5 resi suspension with Timbren bumpstops and u-bolt flip kit. I wouldn’t use factory Bilstein with these leafs. You are going to top them out and eventually the shaft will pull out of the body. I would swap them out for Bilstein 5100 or Eibach suspension

 

Are your bumpstops being contacted at all with that suspension? Trying to decide whether I should do new bumpstops while I'm in there. I've read that some people think they're unnecessary if the suspension is set up.

 

Also, I realize that the fronts of the 5100s are adjustable (may add those next year), but do the rears need to be purchased in different heights, or are they all the same?

 

Yes they are. With stage 3 and 300-400 lbs of gear my bumpstops frequently make contact when I bomb down fire roads. It’s nice to have them at slow speeds too while crawling up rocks and dips. Those factory bumpstops are like cement blocks. They’re very stiff and when they make contact with the frame it’s a very jarring/hard hit.

You talked me into it. Any opinions on sumo springs vs the timbrens? Seems like they're similar.

 

Those of you who went Stage 3, did you need to install extended brake lines? 24"?

 

Yes! Unless you modify your factory bracket by spacing it up higher on the axle, you’ll likely rip them off

 

Both are great options. Durobumps, wheeler’s, energy suspension, perry parts, all are good options and much better then the factory ones

 

Ended up with the Timbrens. Looked like the best option for softening the bottom-out without affecting the rest of the suspension for non-towing applications.

Any posts or videos you know of detailing this process? Didn't think about the break lines being affected by the leaf spring replacement.

 

Stack a bunch of washers, a block or metal sleeve with a longer bolt is all you’ll need. Couple different variations to do it to avoid extended brake lines.

I think toyota has a part to raise the brake line for their factory lift kit also? Im currently at opt1 but I came across the camper shell i was looking for a year sooner then anticipated. With the bed unloaded ive got 3/4" gap between timberen bumpstops. Pretty sure im going to opt 3 when work slows down..... and see how that feels, probably rig up a brake line extender

 

Wasn't there a link to a bracket from Lowes that people were using? Something about preventing fuel tank rub or over extension of the brake lines?

edit: flipping the bolt around was to prevent rubbing on the gas tank. I think there was a link to a bracket for the brake line though.

No, I did several searches and couldn't find it. It appears several were able to re-attach the bracket directly to the leaf spring, but needed to bore out the bolt hole a tiny bit.

edit: it appears a second gen owner wasn't able to make the bracket reach though.
