What’s the new engine in the tacoma going to have? Carry on with the traditional clutch fan or electric cooling fans?

Don't know but it would probably be electric. What does the Tundra have?

The twin turbo v6? I've never seen discussion about the I'd just think it was electric on the current model.

What do the other 2.4 turbos have?

The only thing l remember seeing on the cooling system so far was that it no longer uses a simple thermostat, but replaced with some sort of electronic valve.

I knew it had two fans, and I'm fairly certain the power steering is now electric. Which is what I based the presumption of the fans being electric. The R&T was the only thing that popped up with little effort, confirms my presumption so I ended my research there. I still couldn't tell you if the Tundra has an electric or mechanical fan. I'd think any truck built today that has a turbo would also have an electric fan.

It has to be electrical. If not how will it work with the start stop?

What does the Highlander Turbo have? Will be the same as its the same engine.

Seems to be electric with the 4 min research I did on toyota parts websites.

Transverse engines will have electric fans simply because the serpentine belt faces the side of the vehicle.

    Not necessarily.

Since the Tacoma is RWD the engine could be placed longitudinal instead. Usually 4 cylinder engines are placed transversely in FWD vehicles since it makes more mechanical sense that way.

Edit.. looking at engine pictures online. The Tacoma engine looks like its oriented longitudinal NOT transverse which makes sense since its RWD.

^In the Highlander the engine is transverse, therefore it's an electric fan. In the Tacoma it's longitudinal, so either way is feasible.

That's right. The Tundra has two electric "pusher" fans mounted in front of the A/C condenser, a bit like the aux pusher fan on Mexican-market Tacomas. But these are in addition to the belt-driven radiator fan.

There was also a TSB on the 3rd Gens that added an electric fan to boost AC Performance.

It's Toyota we're talking about here...

Note the two coolant reservoirs with different shades of pink, one for the inverter, one for the battery pack:

Tacoma has a mechanical water pump and electric fan.
