You’re having to much fun. Are you updating to a different heat source.

The furnace ran beautifully, it just smelled like a diesel engine in the house.

...and I think this might be the problem.
The burner bolted to the flange in the foreground.

Here is the heat exchanger, I can't get it up the stairs alone.

    KIMG3445.jpg

Like most of my home projects it isn't long before I get the old Ford out.

    KIMG3446.jpg

The old girl didn't even spin a tire.

    KIMG3447.jpg

I cleaned the rest of the metal up and by then my back was getting vocal.

    KIMG3448.jpg

More to do another day, the shower felt extra good. :)

Sad to see the old dinosaur go in a way, it and I spent a lot of (?) quality (?) time together... More importantly I learned a lot about how an oil furnace works.

I’ve never seen an old furnace before. That thing is a beast.

After a year of watching FBMP I found a used propane furnace exactly the configuration I needed - at a great price, $200.
I contacted the fellow 30 minutes after he listed it and was there at 10 the next morning.

Of course it was a 300 mile round trip to fetch it, a road trip is always a good thing for me.

It was way oversize for this small house.
When I moved here I noticed it cycling on high limit - a very bad thing.

There was a 1 gallon per hour nozzle installed, about 138,000 BTU, the duct work couldn't move the heat as fast as it was being produced. I down rated it to a .6 gph nozzle, around 82,000 BTU and it ran nicely for many years.

The heat exchanger finally rusted through letting fumes into the house.

Agree with both posts above. Your instinct seems right to me, not that you need my approval!

Do you have other "raw" nature types of trim in the house?

I'm not sure I'd want the worm paths if there wasn't similar types of accents.

Kinda think this question is poll worthy.

I made the mistake once of trying several stains in an exposed area before, took some extra work to cover my mistake.

I made the mistake of trying to stain something once... :annoyed:

There is a white painted ridge beam in my living room - that white paint covers $65 of stain grade lumber - 25 years ago.

    You guys..
The reason I can do this now is because I have made almost every mistake in the past. @shakerhood I did thAt too. @RustyGreen I did that too. I just am too dense to quit lol.
