Whoah. The “Slo Stringer” was this guy here in San Luis Obispo area. He would report all the accidents on Facebook. He was well known by the first responder crowd and was often on scene when they were. It was nice to know what hat caused “those skid marks”.

FYI - The performance of those will be poor without an HD wiring harness, hopefully you have that too.

Why? we are only talking less then 15 amps and the wire run isn't very long.

Correct- It’s the current draw that will be limited by the resistance of the smaller gauge wires - so you’ll get dimmer bulbs and possible heat buildup in the wires if the gauge is too small. That’s why he’s recommending a HD harness, they’ll provide full current to the bulbs.

Anyone who plugged 10 sets of Christmas tree lights into the cheapest extension cord possible has seen the effect of high current on small gauge wire.

Among my standard orange extension cords for the average project, which are 16 or 14 gauge, I have a 12-gauge (matching house wiring) extension cord for those times I CANNOT AFFORD overloading due to power tools.

I tried using a standard lamp cord on a compressor once and it turned from a white to a brown cord for some reason. I also had to wait a long time for the pressure to build up in the compressor to fill up my tires. My Dad was kinda mad at me for doing it. :notsure: Kids….

That outlet was junk long before it finally burnt up you might notice the supply cord is still intact and it most likely is a #14.

#12 is rated 20 amps, Skill saw 15 amps. Yes a smaller wire can lead to the saw over heating.

Another factor that's part of this is voltage, yes sitting still with the engine off will draw more current so voltage rise is part of the equation, I make it habit to run the engine while I'm driving no smoke and white lights.
