So someone gets the exact same type of firearm, and engraves the exact same existing serial number, model name, manufacturer, and origin from a stolen gun. To ? Frame someone???

Quite miraculous. How often does this happen?

Good luck getting a Cz shadow 2 compact, they are hard to come by, if someone was going to frame me and use a gun serial number they should probably use a cheaper gun to commit said crime

But if I stole it from you, you'd report it stolen. I could just use your stolen gun for my crime. Less engraving work :)

    I couldn't put a shadow 2 SN on a P80.

this is true, I guess I should just build a few more ghost guns and it would eliminate being able to post a serial number :)

Posting photos of non serialized guns is probably worse than posting photos of serial numbers.

Stealing a ghost gun would be a jackpot.

No, it doesn’t have to be the same firearm. Usually it isn’t. Hence my comment of police work. No, not to frame someone like in a personal manner, but rather just to mislead. It takes manpower to run down that shit, and even legal buys as well as home made firearm transfers have been inaccurate description through NICS.
I mean, people put on fake serials for dumber reasons. https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/Sending-Finished-80-Lower-For-Anodizing/4-757729/

Idk what that is. Just something that got brought up in casual convo with some LEO buddy’s in California…where they have the whole registration thing.

Well, if some numbnutz puts a Glock SN on an AR, I think even Abbott and Costello would be able to figure that out pretty quick.

I tend to not put much credence in the ARF dot com shenanigans. Things get a little bonkers there occasionally.

I engraved 8675309 as one of my 80% serial numbers. Hopefully Tommy Tutone doesn't end up in the clink

again, you would THINK they/it would be figured out quickly…either way.
The Ar15 forum was an example. The credence was LEO in CA. Does it happen a ton? probably not. Getting into gunfight at the grocery store doesn’t happen a lot either..yet I still grab that low fat milk strapped..

Just once, I'd like to take two pistols. A plain Jane version right out of the box and then a Gucc'd-Up version like those beauties in your picture.
Side by side shoot them and see how I do. I'm not doubting that the upgraded models are better. I'm wondering if I'm good enough to let all of those upgrades sing the way they were meant to. Or do I need to be upgraded to a point to be ale to appreciate the finer pistols?

I always tell people that skills and muscle memory take up no space, never need to be cleaned after shooting, can't be stolen (unless you stroke out), don't wind up in the hands of children, etc. You are better off building skills over equipment 10-Fold. Take that money and buy a S-Ton of ammo instead. Take classes. Get range time. Get YOU good.

But I've been doing that now since I started regularly shooting in about 1988ish. Have I sent enough lead into a berm that I'm worthy of the upgrades?

Most people upgrade their equipment long before they’ve started running up against the limitations of the basic gun.

Or, they buy high-dollar stock guns with out-of-the-box capabilities they will never tap into.

A competent shooter with a basic Springfield 1911 will always still beat a noob with a $5,000.00 Wilson Combat.

That Wilson is still a beautiful gun, and worth owning if you can afford it. Same reason people buy a TRD Pro that never leaves pavement, when a 2WD SR would meet all their needs.

It’s nice to have nice things.

Still, if money was a limiting factor, as it often is, or if you had to choose simply between Gucci gear vs training for whatever reason, you’re still better served with training.

it’s nice to have nice things. It’s more useful to know how to use things you have I think is the main idea of the story.

seems to be the source of a lot of these conundrums, but its no reason to assume if someone has nice things, then they must not have trained

you dont have to be john wick to have john wick guns, if you choose to believe you do, thats fine, but it isnt true for everyone else because so

I’m not assuming anything. I’m saying in an order of operation; in terms of prioritizing, it’s training before Gucci. Lockers before lights. Jump tower before free fall. Walk before running, etc.
    that’s my actual answer.

If I was assuming, or if you wanted my elitist answer then as example of shit I have seen:

Having a peq on you AR, and not having NV, on top of being a noob is actually retarded. Like they should probably ride the short bus and tell mom to cancel soldier of fortune subscription. A literal reminder of having more money than sense, when that same person never even heard of an immediate action or dropping A zone shots on the KD range like some pog boot.

Not apples to apples to what was being discussed, but you can see where “nice things” over training can lead…

My Dad got his Distinguished Rifleman Award with an as-issued National Match Garand.

I got mine with a stock Springfield Armory M1A National Match while I was still competing as a junior.

Shortly afterwards, he upgraded both of us to an M1A Super Match put together by Boots Obermeyer. I never really got used to the upgrade. He loved his. He still has it. I wish I still had mine.

As a Marine, we had really basic functional stuff. In the Army, they issued me stuff I didn’t want or need that made my M4 into an unwieldy pig.

Sometimes a basic familiar piece of gear, used to its full potential, is exactly what you need. Sometimes “nicer” isn’t functionally better. It’s just different.
