Hi everyone! I just hopped in my truck today to discover a very unpleasant smell! A smell I hadn’t smelt in my truck before…
Checking under my floor mats I have discovered my carpets being wet. Only under the front floor mats. both driver and passenger side.

The last few days we’ve had lots of rain but today is nice and sunny so the trucks completely dry right now besides the inside carpets!

Ive driven the last few days and haven’t noticed any water dripping anywhere so I’m quite confused. Has anyone else had this problem and solved where the waters coming from?
Thought I’d just post here first

    pic of the truck

    I have not!
It’s possible previous owner had, but that would’ve been over three years ago now.
    Should I?

Well there's a vapor barrier behind it, the clear plastic covering. And if it has come unstuck it can leak from there. Water is supposed to be able to drain through your door. But if the vapor barrier is damaged it can splash in your door and out onto your door panel, and then drain onto your carpet.

I had no idea. I will have to check that. Thank you. I just thought it was weird that it was both sides. Haven’t had this issue before, or at least not that I noticed.

Heater core leak is possible. Losing any coolant?

Holes on the firewall leaking. Run any new wires?

    AC drain clogged.

Front cab drains clogged and overflowing into the body some how.

Having had many water leak cars. The most common thing is windshields leaking especially if its been replaced. Sunroofs also leak. You might pop some trim pieces out like the kick panels and glovebox and use a garden hose to spray the truck down. Do you have a sunroof?

I do have a sunroof yes! You think that could be leaking and causing my floors to be wet?

The best thing is to take a couple of panels off and get an assistant to take a garden hose to your truck while your inside and look for any water. Could be a bad door seal as well.

Not sure on the Taco, but have had a few vehicles where the drains under/in front of the bottom of the windshield get clogged up. In moderate rain this causes them to overflow and it goes right down the back of the firewall and into the carpet. Worth looking at.

You may want to run a garden hose on the windshield cowl (black plastic panel between the glass and hood). Pull the carpet back and see if water trickles down. That's where mine was coming from. I got some flex seal on a paint brush and crammed my arm inside the hole (cowl and wipers removed). Then I painted it along the 90 degree angle where the metal meets. You could also do what this guy did and take off the fender in case your arm can't contort like a creature.

Agree with other poster, a heater core leak will cause wet floor. Is windshield fogging up, as can be another sign of leaking heater core?

Check your seams like some others have mentioned. I was able to repair mine from the interior with flex seal. Leaked up against the firewall and cab.

I had this happen a few months ago. Tried everything mentioned in other threads, I had weathertech mats but the water was getting under them some how. Turns out at the top of the windshield (where the windshield is sealed to the body), the body was rusting causing a gap. Water was getting in through here during rain, running down the headliner to the passenger pillar, down the right hand side of the dash and onto the carpet. 20 year old carpet stewing in water does not smell great. This was an absolute pita to find. Ended up replacing carpets and doing sound deadening while I was in there. Had to get windshield off, de rust, paint and re seal.
