Thanks for meeting up! I really liked the place. We might have to do a TW lunch or dinner there sometime.

Also, the blue beast looked great with the new shoes!

 I agree that it would be a great spot for a future TW meet up!

I got home and when my ass hit the couch I dozed off for 20 minutes. Kinda wish I had just slept through the Packers game... :bananadead:

I never did like delivering those. F'n firetruck drums weigh 106 lbs. Was always exciting taking a full pallet of 16 drums in a Transit.

They are. The ones I pick up are considerably smaller but weigh just over 1100# each and are about 7' long. Those, I would guess, are probably nearly 1500# each and maybe close to 9' long.

The drums on the pallet are probably around 18" diameter with a braking area of about 6" wide. The pallet probably weighs 2200-2500#.

Is that for running a winch without a winch hook?

    Casa de Nalgas :rofl::rofl::rofl:
Took me a minute to recover after reading that…then I saw the cabinets! Those look great!

Yes, no hook or thimble, just a loop and soft shackles. Really rustles some people's jimmies so naturally I like it lol.

I was hoping someone would catch that. :D

I just saw something about this. Seems like it would go well with the lines that have a soft shackle built into the end. Incidentally, my fairlead is looking pretty rough these days. Now I have to decide whether to clean it up, or replace it with one of those.

Why would it ruffle anyone's feathers?

FWIW I caught the arse joke too but maybe I'm desensitized now? It's all butts this and butts that with you whippersnappers...ahh who am I kidding, Sir Mix A Lot was a scholar and a gentleman.

For the Yankum fairlead, some people think it's dumb because synthetic line can degrade being exposed to UV, synthetic line has a minimum bend radius and pulling with just a loop could be too small leading to inadequate strength or failure, and lots of other reasons. Some of those are valid arguments to me, but overall I think it's more a) people are used to doing it their way and fear change, and/or b) people lack basic math skills and get butthurt when a fairlead costs $190 but don't blink an eye spending $300 on a Fluffynuts 55 super dooper hook aka jewelry for mall crawling. While I see some merit in those discussions, I still like the idea of increasing safety by removing metal where possible. Only experience I have is watching/helping you characters winch (and we did get some good practice during the last trip), but I figure worst case it doesn't work out and I change accessories later.

Hey I have one of those! The fluffynuts anodizing treatment is the real deal. Softest anodizing finish I’ve ever seen!

I saw a video on the thimble thing after I received my fluffynuts sticker in the mail. The first thing I thought was “huh”. After that thought, I thought, “well, why not?”

You went through the “why nots”. Seems like the minimum bend radius is moot, since it’s on a thimble anyway to receive the hook. Or am I not understanding that counter argument?

As far as UV, cant you just put a sleeve over the end?

One less piece of metal seems to make sense to me.

Ain't even mad at people that have those, it's good gear. Just can't understand a small percentage of them that have said I shouldn't buy the fairlead because it's expensive.

That guy running the trencher was also a masseuse? No hate, get down with your bad self.

See above on the Nutsack 55, no hate just yankin some chains (pun intended) for a laugh.

My plan is to cut the small thimble out of the winch line for just a rope loop end. The fairlead kinda needs this to mount up properly. Then using a larger diameter soft shackle prevents the bend radius issue to a large degree (depending who you believe or what you read). Hopefully that means in a normal simple single line pull there is zero metal. Time will tell I guess.

Backing things up further, I need to get these gahdamn 33's mounted and stop being a pussycat on the trails first so I can use my future winch. And then you can all point at this and laugh when I become a trail plug. And then I buy magical Fluffnutts 55.

UV: yeah I was planning to try a small sleeve or just live with the idea that every year or two I chop the end off and re-splice a new loop. Just something to live with, and as I understand winch lines have a shelf life anyways so it's not like it's a big deal. The one coming on mine is 100' to start with so I'm not losing sleep over it.

It's all fun and a big learning experience going from never owned a winch to what I feel like is the deep end real quick.

Speaking as a novice, seems the deep end was crossed with the new fangled soft shackles. Had a real hard time trusting that the first time, but they work.
That said, seems there’s a time and place for both. But I’m a novice, so don’t anybody ask me to list them lol

Don't worry. The deep end has 37's and a solid front axle in it. ;)
