Several years ago I got a really good deal on some cold weather riding gear and invested in it. Quilted liners with what were at one time waterproof outer shells. Later I added heated gloves and more recently a heated jacket liner. So long as the roads are relatively clear I will ride. I've gotten to work already and temp on my FJR showed 16 degrees but that's as low as the display will go. Checked my phone and it showed 7 degrees. With the heated gear and cold weather stuff over top of it I'm comfortable for my 10 mile commute. I've ridden over 100 miles in below freezing air temp to meet friends for lunch.

He finished. 13 hours 36 minutes. Lots of rain, and some pretty heavy downpours.

Mile 21 of the run - his comment to his son was "Legs too tired to walk, need to run the rest of the way". :)

I think he got in his cardio workout! :)

@BkerChuck I knew a guy in Fargo who taught school and worked PT at the sharif's office as their firearms guy who helped with CCW . He was a lot like you rode his bike everyday he could.he was saying he only misses 1 or 2 days a year because of weather and it gets brutal up here. It's usually if we have a blizzard with a foot or more of snow. He was saying most of his friends thinks he's nuts when it's 20 below

:rain: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Quietly got 1" early, but doing nothing but being grey now. Supposed to be on and off - hopefully more on! I feel like taking a weather day! We're supposed to get more chances all week though.

There's a guy here in central PA that I've known for roughly 30 years who got me started on the whole "try to ride a perfect year" thing.

    https://www.revzilla.com/common-tre...as-ridden-a-motorcycle-every-day-for-16-years

Article is several years old and seriously out of date. His streak ended when Covid put him in the hospital but he can document 21 years 11 months and some odd days without fail. He's back at it but likely won't be able to beat that streak and I doubt anyone else ever will. I've ridden with him once or twice and met up with him on numerous occasions.

Good afternoon. The weekend was overcast and a mix of rain/mist. The colors in central/western PA were beautiful. Driving home yesterday reinforced why I do not drive home on Sundays. Traffic was great till the last exit for Hagerstown, then it was a PITA the rest of the way home. Waiting on a call from my sister to deliver an antique dresser and a case of wine to her home. Also getting ready to smoke a chicken for dinner.

I had a Honda 450 K4. Rebuilt it from the ground up. That was my only transportation for awhile after my VW Bug caught fire and burned on the freeway. I was a young teacher then not making
much money. I think my take home pay was $750 a month, house payment was $350. The kids at school thought it was pretty cool their teacher rode a motorcycle! Hell, I didn't have any choice
    because I was broke!

My Honda CB400F was originally owned by a math teacher at my high school! I never had him for any classes and didn't know this when I first bought it. He'd owned it for years and eventually wanted a bigger bike so he bought a Road King and the little Honda sat for several years. He later sold it to a female friend of mine and from sitting so long the carbs were all gummed up. Obviously it never ran properly for her so she tucked it away in a detached garage and it just continued to deteriorate. I saw it once when at a party and asked about buying it. She turned me down for about 3 years and eventually caved in. Took me a year to get running and another to get painted and finishing touches. I took it back over to show her and her husband and that's when I learned the rest of the history. Her husband and I then went over to the former teacher's house to show him his old bike. He teared up a little seeing it and asked permission to take some pictures. Pictures? I tossed him the key and offered to let him ride it for old time's sake. He declined but did take quite a few pictures of it.

Turns out the bike was sold new by a small Honda shop just around the corner from where I now live. They've been a huge help with obsolete parts and getting some minor stuff right that I just didn't know how to do properly myself. I now have several trophies form showing it.

    Afternoon all:

We started to drive back on the road to the State Game Land we hunt, on the way back we met up with game commission employes and were told they were closing the road to install a culvert, they had all summer to do it but it gets done during hunting season! :annoyed:
Then plan B, we go to another spot where after walking about a mile back we need to cross a small dilapidated wooden bridge, guess what, they tore the bridge out and we were looking at about a 5' straight down drop off where the bridge was, so, created a detour just below where the bridge was by breaking branches off of rhododendron to create a corridor so we could cross the creek!:annoyed:
    ONE OF DEM YEARS!

When I was in college besides my car I had a Honda 250 scrambler. That was a damn fun bike. I also got for free a Yamaha 360 dirt bike with a blown engine. I completely rebuilt the Yamaha. Heck of a dirt bike, never saw a hill I couldn’t conquer. Fun times. I still love bikes but haven’t rode in years. I had 4 friends over the years die in mc crashes. 3 it was the other persons fault and one was the mc riders fault. He swerved to Avoid something in the road and went off a cliff. It was Xmas eve and his wife was 8 months pregnant. I will never forget Shane, he was a good man. Just decided not to push my luck any more.

Much as I hate it, I've lost a few friends myself riding motorcycles. The thought of quitting has yet to cross my mind. I've told all of my friends and family that if by some chance that's how I finally go out then accept the fact I went out doing something I truly love doing. I've hit a deer on the bike back in 2002 and gotten hit head on in 2019. Guess it's just not my time.

Good friend from one of the FJR forums was hit and killed in 2022 in Georgia.Jason was on his way home from his daughter in law's baby shower. I rode 750 miles in 12 hours to get there for his memorial service. We had riders from all over the US show up to pay their respects. His widow just came to one of our larger FJR meets in September as a guest. I'm probably closer to some of these people than to some of my family.

I'll never question anyone deciding they should stop riding and maybe at some point I might still make that call myself.

The whole motorcycle thing is a sore spot for me; in 1979 I lost my 17 year old brother, and now my son has a beautiful vintage Triumph Bonneville. It was his only vehicle for a number of months while he was in between cars, so those were nervous months for me; he has a car now. :)

While at a family gathering Sunday everyone was there so they got everyone together for group pictures. I'm 64 and most of my family is 55-70 now. When I saw the pictures taken I was in shock. All of us together looked like a bunch of old people. I couldn't believe how much that bothered me. I guess I still think of everyone as being younger. It still only seems like 15-20 years ago when I watched my brother in laws graduation party from high school turn into a giant food fight. He is 61 now. Where did all those years go?
Im not as fast as I used to be but I still get around good and enjoy things but seeing those pictures I now realize when I hear its gonna catch up with you someday, maybe someday isn't that far off.

Why do I get the feeling that a large gathering of bucks is going to take place in your yard around Thanksgiving? "We've been looking for you!"

I too once had a Honda Scrambler. Bought from a next door neighbor who had it on the side of his house. Bike was overgrown with weeds, etc. Once I got it running it was a blast to ride, that bike was a real hill climber! Can't remember what happened to it!

I'm tempted to buy a Can-Am 3 wheeler and start riding again. Even if just around the neighborhood. (Age 70)

Doe are safe in my yard, Buck aren't!
I have a trail camera on a trail just off the yard with a tree stand just off the trail, so far only a couple of does and one small buck, not even worth spending any time in the stand.
