Favorite Whiskey?

In this whiskey journey I’ve had a lot of let downs. This passed brought another. Shenks 2021 was a dud. After looking at it proof I shoulda known. 91 is really low for my tasting like. Gotta live and learn..even if it’s a “cool” bottle I need to wisen up and pass. It was a proper let down ..

 

I have a 2023 Shenk’s open and I’ve really enjoyed it. I can hook you up with a sample if you’re interested in comparing. Never had a Shenk’s before (or Bomberger’s), but I do generally like everything Michter’s. I know you like high proof stuff as you said so maybe that’s it, but I do too and I think this bottle is fantastic. Has a really nice rye spice profile.

 

I have to agree. I got a Shenks 23 and felt like it was very much a let down. Maybe I'm just not a michters guy. For MSRP price being that high, I wish it would have some sort of idea of how old it was. It tasted very young to me.

 

Teensy pours. Small.

 

Broke it out to make sure I’m not crazy. Took my time, I get a lot of different flavors depending on which sip. Marshmallow, clove-y spice, sweet raisin bread, a little orange, faint dried fruit. It’s very good.

 

I haven't cracked mine yet, but I have been in the mood lately hanging out between 90 and 110 proof...except tonight, obviously.

Everything I've read about Shenks is that its am excellent example of it's genre and I look forward to getting around to one.

Found this dusty bottle don’t remember where it came from. It was okay.
Chartreuse warm up and some Mexican whiskey for pictures sake.

No feathers ruffled, but the list says it’s based in part on availability and then includes lots of scarce bottles.

I thought it was a nice view. but I did find it funny that they said "Another decision we made was to stick to one expression per brand" and yet the last 2 were from the same company......

 

Ah I see the rankings now when I click the link to the original article. Oof, I think that makes it even worse. So Blanton's at #2 and 6 of the top 10 from Buffalo Trace. I think @jandrews has a solid point there haha.
