Too cool! i never thought to look for a forum on that kind of stuff. now i really want to build one for personal use.

a forum like that could be very valuble for some Q and A when you do the mini baja team.

 

Me neither, I was trying to find that mini rock crawler on sammie axles and came across it. It makes me want to build one as well but I think it's a little too big of a project for me at this time, maybe after a year or two on the sae team. Unfortunately USF doesn't have the mini baja anymore though, only the formula. I'm sure it would still be very useful though.

 

Well my trip to Japan got canceled so i will be sticking around now. Jason since your going off to college i will watch your welder for you i will keep it safe and well taken care of

 

aw man, that's too bad. i always like watching the formula guys though. baja is all about suspension and toughness. the formula guys are all about the motor and driveline effeciency, so it's extremely useful to see both teams and learn all you can from them.

i feel like you could do a decent buggy for pretty cheap. you could pull a motorcycle or vw bug engine from a junk yard pretty cheap. i'd probably do a 4-link rear with a jeep axle (or something else narrow enough. then other than the chocks and some hardware pieces (unibals and such) it's all fab work with tube stock.

you should start the mini baja team back up at USF1

I was a little bummed when they told me that too. The suspension that goes into the formula cars is pretty complex too. They had several carts in there all with very different set ups. One year they did a cantilever.

I think that you could go into a project thinking it would be cheap and be surprised as it comes along how much it will really cost. I wasn't planning on spending as much money on my truck as I did.

I may take it and leave it in the garage if they have a use for mig. They mostly tig everything but they may use it for tacking

 

Anybody want to go wheeling this weekend? Preferably Sunday because there is an event going on at the military museum in Green Cove on Saturday that I may go check out.

or we could do a mod day and get your spindles gusseted and Sparkle's lift on.

that is entirely too true....i don't think a project has ever cost me what i thought it would.

and you are right, the formula cars do take the suspension very seriously. it's just less of a failier point for them. once their valving, travel, and spring rate/preload are correct, they are pretty set. baja then has to worry about breaking/binding parts.

even if they don't need a mig, i'm sure you could find a use or two. maybe even make some money . actually, i'm pretty sure camburg MIGs some of their stuff.

i haven't done tig before, but from what i've heard, it's pretty much like large scale soldering.

i've got a little product line going.
roof rack will be one of the items. i've gotten a couple requests for those.
the roof racks will be one-offs since everyone's mounting style and location will be different.

i'm still in the design process for some of the other items. but one of them will be a jerry can holder that mounts in the bed using the bed rail system. got some other stuff up my sleve as well.

as far as the potential name..... so far, my farorite is "overland off road".
i'm open to suggestions though.
