Same. I bought my 3rd gen Taco to put 200k+ miles on. I didn't buy it because it was good on gas, or cool looking, or nice. I bought it to drive many reliable miles and because it had a bed. I had almost 400k on my first gen and if my son hadn't wrecked it I'd probably still be driving it.

I had other cars that were considered my "nice car" that I kept the miles off.......at the end of the day my Taco was driven more and was also worth more....go figure.

Me too.. the Taco has been around for a long time and the MPG in my V6 gen 1 was the same as my i4 gen 3.. about 20-22 average depending on the season.

I'd be surprised at 24-25 mpg.. although before I removed the ugly chin spoiler and went up to 265s I was averaging about 24 mpg.

I guess it will depend on the model and the modifications (if any) the owner decides to make.

I'd imagine the SR/SR5 might get the best mileage.

If the 3.4L twin turbo Tundra that weighs 1k lbs more than a Tacoma can get a rating of 24 hwy, it would be sad if the 4th gen Tacoma couldn't beat it.

Compared to your 3rd gen, this 4th gen will likely weigh a little less, have more gears, a smaller displacement engine that is decades more advanced than the 2.7L, and have a bigger focus on aerodynamics. I really don't think it is far fetched to see a base SR5 get a 25 highway rating.

Yeah.. I think your right .. Like I said my bare bones SR was pulling 24 mpg before I removed the chin spoiler and put on bigger tires.

When I bought my truck I really believed that it might be possible to get 26-27 mpg in the 4 banger..... I'd bet there's some hyper milers out there with bone stock setups and 245s getting close

Regarding Toyota not building to order:

I understand that neither the consumer nor the dealer can order directly from the factory.

But if I go to the Toyota website, select "Build Your Toyota", build what I want, and hand it to a dealer, he'll almost certainly come up with what's on my build sheet. It may take a little while depending on what it is, but he'll get it, even in the post-COVID era.

So...does it really matter that you can't order from the factory?

I do realize that entering different zip codes before "Build Your Toyota" comes into play and could become part of this discussion.

Doesn’t work that way at all. The dealer does not care about getting you your exact vehicle. There are 35 other people on their list that want something similar to you. When you are number 1 on the list, they will call you and ask if you want what is coming in even though it’s only 1/2 the spec you told them. As soon as you decline, they go down the list till somebody bites… all the while holding your reservation money to spend how they please. Just went through this 2 year process waiting for a hybrid Highlander. Wanted an XLE trim with a tow package and 2nd row bench any color but blue or red. Toyota simply doesn’t make them in that setup at the factory - I’d get calls about XLEs no tow package and I’d get calls about limiteds with tow package every now and then, but never what I actually specified. We are going on 3 years still number 1 on the list at one of Ohio’s highest volume dealerships. We’ve since bought a new Pilot for my wife, but keep our name on the list just as an experiment to see how long it will actually take. Got my exact spec Bronco from Ford in 9 months with tow package, hard top, stick shift, color, accessories, etc…

If you pick up a Tacoma Brochure from the dealer and read the fine print it talks about special orders.

Depends on the dealer. I got the exact 3rd gen I was looking for. (I had to of course ask for a combination that is even offered by Toyota within their packages). Dealers can request specific configurations from the factory. Sometimes that configuration is in the pipeline soon, sometimes it's not. I ended up waiting about 2 months.

In all fairness, sending a custom down the line probably fooks things up royally.

I get that Toyota makes a bazillion more vehicles than BMW, and therefore just in time orders is not something they have to do, but would it kill them to try? Considering their ever expanding model line, stuffing the regional take it or leave it shit down our throats is bullshit.

The only option on the '23 Pro is auto or manual trans. The '24 Pro only comes with an auto, so likely zero options (other than exterior and interior color). Problem solved, everyone get a Pro.

I’m thinking that the vast majority of the guys in this thread who are actually going to purchase a G4 will get the OR or the Pro.
