the Kenwood dnx997xr headunit I had in my tacoma had a menu setting that would keep it from rebooting when you restarted the truck. it was pretty nice.

 

That is good. I almost thought about writing to Pioneer. I checked the specs on Crutchfield about DNX997XR and did not see this mentioned. They could definitely market the feature.

 

yeah I never saw it mentioned anywhere either. I found it by accident when I was going through menus. definitely seems like something worth marketing

 

My 2017 Kia Forte5 SX has this feature built in.

 

I do not miss that reach across to the passenger window. Esp on my old Cheby that had rustproofing shot into the track for the window crank.


Hell, I'm really starting to think it was dumb for the AC slider to not be powered. I don't mind reaching back there, but it seems unnecessary. But then, all the Toyota Trucks have the dropper rear window. C'mon, Toyota!

 

you should just get the power window from the DC and put it in. then you can have @daveeasa make you a harness to make it work lol

 

I know that someone did scarf one in, but can't remember if it was an AC or an early DC? Lot's of work though.


It'd be cool to rig up a mostly hidden linear actuator attached to the left headrest and on to the latch?

 

Interesting information... I will have to look through the settings of my DMX1057XR headunit. I hate the reboot from Acc to Start.

Any chance you remember where in settings you found it?

 

I dont remember, it's been almost 4 years since I set it up. I'm pretty sure it was a setting in the head unit but I guess it could have been a maestro setting too.

 

I found it.

It is buried : System / OEM Settings / Maestro Settings / Maestro Module / Accessory During Crank.

That’s a great feature, been using for several years via the Maestros on my trucks. That was my number one complaint in aftermarket decks before I had that feature - how damn long they take to reboot. Especially if you have the truck in accessory/run briefly and then go to start, radio reboots again and takes forever.

 

I changed the setting but haven’t tested it yet. Thanks for the find. Might have to get a maestro for the older trucks now if it can do that for them? But maybe only on 3rd gen?

 

Maestro offers that function regardless. As long as the radio is wired to the maestro in the way where the maestro powers it. The maestro has to control the radio’s power for it to work.

 

Thanks all. Do you know how to change the settings on the Maestro? The shop set it up for me and I am not several thousand miles away. @daveeasa I don't think you would want to install a Maestro on an older truck if you do not need it (point of the Maestro is to allow factory integration for settings only accessed in the old factory head unit). It adds a different layer of complexity and expense. I would think the SHO-ME timer unit or another timer would be better. If you already have a Maestro and are just interested in not having to re-boot the head unit that would probably be more efficient to configure vs. mounting and wiring in another module. The advantage of the SHO-ME unit is that you can set up a timer for any other circuits, or even the entire accessory circuit, if so inclined.

I didn't mention this previously but I also have a Uniden R3 detector and I really like the startup chirps-but not if I stall the MT. For me the timer works so there is less 'drama' when re-starting whether by accident or after a fuel stop or just sitting in the car for a few minutes listening to the news on the accessory circuit.

Different rant and I am sure if will never happen but it would be great if there could be a Maestro type unit that would allow me to change settings, lights, lock timers, etc. from a tablet, laptop, or phone vs. and aftermarket head unit. I rarely change those things (more of a one time set and forget) and would like the flexibility of running old-school obsolete/legacy gear like an Alpine 7909.

 

What settings are you trying to change? If you're trying to change the steering wheel button programming and have the RR2, you can do it over bluetooth with an app from your phone. RR has to be removed and taken to the computer. If you're trying to change something else like a vehicle setting that is likely in the radio itself via the Maestro OBD connection.

I like the Maestro simply because it works and has good functionality. For example, iDataLink did not support OEM integration on Nissan Frontiers until mid last year. I had the Maestros before that, and still used them for the flexible steering wheel controls and I could still get the OBD gauge functions. I did have to hardwire the Maestro to the OBD CAN L and CAN H wires, but that was not difficult. It did not show things like tire pressure or doors open (because it was not a supported OEM setup), but otherwise it was functional and I liked it. It did support the non-reboot option, which was nice. Other folks used PAC and the

$64 Axxess ASWC1 Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Interface

Axxess ASWC1. I considered both of those to be subpar....they pretty much ONLY do steering wheel controls, and they're a pain to program. So I could see a Maestro still being worth it. He'll probably still get the OBD functions on an older truck.

 

Yeah, maestro for gauges and steering wheel buttons if I ever get to the wheel mod projects. And because overkill rules.
