Meh I would rather see a naked French guy in the bush than be stuck camping next to an American family any day. That and how often you you get to yell at people to get the hell out of your way because "Its just a dam elk/bison. Do you know how many thousand of those there are around here?"

A lot actually  Road rage + buffalo jam = MTgirl I scream at a people almost every trip down there. Last summer there was a bear out and people were just abandoning their vehicles in the middle of the road...on a curve! I took the time to park off of the road and was the only one not asked by the rangers to move my vehicle.

My favorite thing to do on busy days in the park is to find a road side pull out with no one around...pull over and have everyone in your vehicle bail out with cameras and binoculars at the ready...then just stand and point into the distance. Within a few minutes there will be a crowd gathered and everyone is trying to figure out what everyone else is looking at. Once total chaos has set in its time to quietly get back into your vehicle and drive away...and enjoy having the road to yourself for a few miles :)

You know we thought about doing that, but never tried. I knew that would be a good idea! Yeah we learned fast that the buffalo herd crossings are an hour before/after the sun set/rise and to not be at their crossing at that time.

Where do you stay when you are there? We have a favorite campsite at Lewis Lake that is never taken because you have to walk up a small hill to get back there, but once you do you are alone, and can't see or hear anyone but the lake and at night the wolves can be heard like 1/4 mile away howling. If you ever want to check it out its the the east most campsite in the loop that is furthest south at Lewis Lake (right next to the lake access road).

Definitely the best thing we found to do in the park though was fish at Yellowstone lake from google earth I think it was Bridge Bay, but it was where ever all the fisherman can be found on one beach. They were giving it a go with flies and getting nothing, but I pulled Cutthroat like it was my job with one of these:

It wasn't even fair. Those guys wanted to kill me! I was landing a ~22 inch trout at least once an hour from the far right side of the beach. This worked I kid you not for a week.

    It works...trust me
I'm down in Yelly A LOT...like at least once a month! I think some of the rangers actually recognize me and my truck by now. And I'm close enough that its usually just a day trip for me (90 minutes from my driveway to the entrance gates) but if I do camp in that area I either camp just outside the park to the west or north or in the park at Madison CG. Its big and crowded but I love waking up next to the river there...its one of my favorite spots in the whole park. And I always camp down in the Tetons too...love it there!

oh...and if you're not flyfishing then you're not really fishing ;)

Aaron, have you heard of the Knobstone Creek Trail in Indiana? It's 2 hours away :D, but a lot of people in the midwest use that trail to train for thru hikes on the AT. It's currently 58 miles, but they are connecting another trail to it so soon it'll be 100+ :)
