That's awesome! Congrats on the job. I hope it pays well and you don't work with too many Karens.

    Thanks everyone!

It was good! The commute seems almost impossible by car, though. 1.5 hours of pure traffic each way that I was able to cut down to about 50-55 min. I don't know if I want to drive an old BMW or even older Pickup through that much traffic.

Your time here on earth is valuable man, much moreso than money IMO. Even at 50min each way you are looking at nearly 2hrs out of your day 5 days a week commuting.

Not telling you how to live your life as I dont know the details of your situation but I have a personal rule.

20 miles, 30 minutes one way MAX.

That is what consistent obligations/relationships get for travel (School, work, significant other, etc). Otherwise things have to change so my valuable time isnt spent commuting.

I don't disagree, but I've also been looking for a job for almost 10 months so at this point I wouldn't let an extra 20 miles/30 min (over your personal limit) stop me from taking what seems like a good job.

Also, this is why I really didn't want to buy a house and tie myself down to one specific area but my wife really wanted to buy a place so it's something I just have to deal with.

Luckily it's only 3 days a week (I can work from home the other two) and I really like riding, at least on most days, so I don't view it as a waste of time, it's more just therapy for me.

My dad worked union construction when I was growing up so his job was never at the same place for too long. I can remember one job that was almost 3 hours commute one way. There were 4 guys from the area all working the same job site so they carpooled, so the most any one person drove was 2 days in a week. He'd get up at 4 am to be on the road by about 4:45, work from 8-4, then not be home until almost 8 that evening. I swore to myself back then that I would NEVER do that for any job because I could see even then the wear and tear on him, his vehicle, and his attitude all the time that working like that can't possibly be worth it. He put 158k miles on his Jeep Wagoneer in just 3 years doing that shit.

My rule has been 30 minutes or less each way as well. I had one period of almost 2 years though where it pushed to 23 miles and 40+ minutes but knew that if the job would have lasted I was selling my house and moving closer to my work. They had a big lay off though and made the decision for me. I had concerns going in, so I chose to not move for 2 years to try it before making such a big jump. That's also a period where I really started commuting by motorcycle. 2008-2009 and gas prices hit over $4/gallon here. Had a F-150 4x4 at the time so 13mpg or ride my bike and get 40+ mpg. Fuel savings made it like getting a $1/ hour raise.

NGL, a little jealous of you guys commuting to work. If my schedule didn't have me at work before the sun was up (read as COLD) I'd likely commute more on the bike. I really should anyway, but I like sleep and getting bundled up takes time. :sadviolin:

My commute is right around 10 miles. One mile give or take from house to interstate, 5 miles of slab, then slightly over 3 miles to work. Last 2.5 miles is a nice twisty road that makes it fun. Sadly about 6 months ago they added 2 big warehouses on that nice twisty road and the traffic on it, particularly truck traffic, has nearly tripled. Not quite as fun as it used to be. Still beats driving my truck every day though.

If mine were a bit longer it might be worth it. It's 3 miles. My dirt road for a bit over a mile, sucks for critters, loose gravel, washboards, and mud if it's rained or they have worked on it. Then 2 miles of fairly straight 55/30 MPH two lane to town/the office. Not even enough to get warmed up properly.

    Ya'll commute? :anonymous:

Started packing for my VT trip. Got 140+ miles mapped (actually have probably close to 300+ miles but we only have one day) to explore. Last time we started this route we had 6 trucks and only went 36 miles. Hoping 3 guys on bikes can cover at least 60.

Some of the Class 4's we dealt with when we were there 2 years ago:

And these two sections are sections that are actually a part of this route:

I'm so fucking stoked, especially since temps are hitting low 70's during the day and mid 40's which are my favorite camping temps.

Def going to bring the gopro to record what I can, especially the two creek crossings I already know we will deal with. The thing we have going for us is that we are all on 350 husky 4 strokes, not full on ADV bikes. Two of the guys are pretty new so don't think you can't do it, it just might take you longer and more energy to do it.

I have zero dirt experience. That's not what I'd want to cut my teeth, or break my bones, on.

Looking forward to seeing the vids and pics!
