Toyota works on the lean production method. Custom built vehicles aren't their thing. Quality improves over other brands when they focus on a set system of production. There's a reason they are the top car mfg. in the world. Custom build all the Fords you want. Let's see which ends up at the dealer service more.

Same here. I got my 3rd Gen in 6 weeks from the day the order was placed in the exact configuration I wanted: AC, TRD Sport, 6 M/T, Quicksand, no options except all weather mats. They just tweaked the color and transmission on an existing allocation they had waiting to be built.

It can be done, but like I said it comes with a cost.

If I told you to make X with say 2 different options (80/20 split) at 100 per day for the year. You can come up with a very very standardized process, have it down to a science, have it so controlled it's very hard to screw up and that is highly highly efficient. This is how we did it has a Tier 1 Toyota supplier.

If I told you make X, Y, Z and each one of those has 5 options AND you won't know what you will be making tell we get an order in AND we want it packaged and shipped in a specific sequence.... Good luck. We had to do this sometimes for Ford. Everyone hated it, it was inefficient and it always took a bunch of highly valuable floor space. Because we had to have every option on hand at all times....No one liked Ford.

The customer's position should be and usually is, I don't care about the manufacturer's issues and problems. I want what I want build it, then you get my business.

When you go to the dealer to buy a UAW product, the customer does not say, oh your employees are on strike, I guess I'll take what ever products and options you have available. No the state of production isn't the customer issue or problem. They build what the customer wants, then they get the customer's business.

I agree but, reality doesn't work that way unfortunately. Look around, the world is not what it used to be.

To be fair, aren't 'Yota packages usually pretty logical? Yes, you may end up with some stuff that you don't *need*, but that usually doesn't hurt or get in the way.

The best way is to get a bare bones as possible truck and then add what you want. Probably cheaper in the long run.

A barebones Taco would be 100% custom. 'Yota doesn't do custom. ;)

It will be interesting when the configurator goes live the most bare Tacoma you can get in 4wd.

Exactly how I got my 2022. Admittedly, that was from a Canadian dealer.

Strange. I'm in Delco. I'd have to assume we're puling from the same distributor.

shows up as $31,455 for me too.

Difference is $1,715 which is the credit amount for the utility package.
