It's only cheaper if you don't go custom housing. Even the f9 will price out the same once custom parts are thrown at it.

If I were to replace my front axle, future built will be T10.5 centered with 60 outers. But I honestly think the 9.5 can handle what I threw at it without issue, even with 42s in the future.

What's the advantage of the T center? Wouldn't you be running on the coast side of the gears if it was in the front?

The ability to swap third member on the trail, nearly centered pinion, and the tapered 36s it use. Will be sick to get a matching rear t10.5 too. But nothing is in the work as the 9.5 is sturdy strong for what I do.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Custom housing is going to cost relatively the same whether you go 9 inch or 9.5.
It would have been, pretty much the same price to set up a Ruff Stuff 9 inch housing. Everything would have basically been the same (spindles, hubs, seals, Drotor backer, brakes, flanges etc). It just would have been on a 9 inch housing instead of a 9.5 housing (but the 9 and 9.5 housings are the same price)

I'm not even sure you could get a 9 inch axle or 3rd member cheaper than a 9.5. Because the 9 inch is more known and desirable in the Jeep offroad builds.

The advantages on the 9 are there are more of them, might make them easier to find. The 9 inch is easier to put a pinion guard on. Might be a little smaller for better clearance, and lighter (but I doubt that difference is actually enough to make a difference).

The disadvantage... and the reason I decided to go with a LC 9.5 is, they don't make a Eaton/Harrop for 9 inch.

The only selectable locker option for a 9 inch (that I could find) was an ARB... I'm not putting that trash in my truck.

    Look at yotashop.com
That being said I made a mistake when replacing my head gaskets and had no other option but to replace them again with Felpro head gaskets. Almost a year in and so far so good. This is my dd too.

Looks like I'm going the 9.5 route too cause I agree, too many ARB failures in the rear.

It's gotten to the point (and I hate to admit it, but it's true) that when I'm on the trail with people and they start having trouble with their ARB lockers, it kind of annoys me.

I, literally, have never met anyone in person that has ARBs that hasn't had problems with the locker themselves, or all the bullshit associated with them. (air lines, compressor, wiring, etc) there is WAY to much to go wrong with them. ALONG WITH the quality of ARB in general seems to be going down to a degree , to make it even worse... 0% chance I'll ever run an ARB locker.

To give you an idea of the Ford 9" I'm planning on building for my truck. Parts alone, it's roughly 5600 before tax going with a 609 axle. I'd be going with a Diamond Axle, Solid Axle Dana 60 outers, RCV axle shafts, and a full Yukon/Strange 3rd member. I plan on building everything myself to save money where I can. With all the miscellanous stuff and tax and shipping, it's probably closer to 6500 when all is said and done.

Thankfully my front seems to be good so far but I do wish I went Harrop when I did it. Was saving up for a trip to Moab simultaneously and had to cut corners. But I agree I also am at that point. We did a run 2 years ago where almost EVERYONE'S lockers were leaking and either not engaging at all or engaging when it felt like it. Half the guys needed to winch way more than they needed because of it. What annoyed me more is it was all known issues to the guys but they didn't bother to fix it before the trip.

:spending: Alright well looks like my road to 37's will take me a lot longer than I expect especially with the Ferd I am paying off in the driveway. Think I'll just buy a new set of 35's, install the NWF box that's collecting dust and run it like that for now.

Ya, I get what you're saying about things taking longer than you want. I've had the 63 swap kit and leaf springs sitting in the garage for 2 years now lol... finally getting them in. I got most of the axle housing pieces on Black Friday last year.

Now that I'm pulling the old stuff out I'm hoping I can clean it up and get some sort of return to put back in to some of what I need to complete this project. (To at least dull the blow on the rest of the shit I need to buy).

Yep. That's my thought process with linking my truck right now. I might as well just wait and do it right later compared to do it this winter and rush it before King of the Hammers. Also turning into possibly a bad thing since I'm considering bypasses as well now haha

Yep. One less thing to worry about when I'm romping on this thing when it comes to making it home. It's also on less thing for me to part together if I ever decide to SAS later down the road. 37s would also be fun on IFS, but I'd need to retire the truck from daily driver duties first and fix a few week points as well on the truck with the front end. Mainly the stock steering setup and the intermediate shaft on the diff. Once that's done, maybe RCV axle shafts up front, but that's awhile from now.
