TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

I’ve replaced the pulley twice in the past. I use a new bolt each time, even then I had a very close call one of the times. Now I have the URD quick change, hopefully no more messing with this tiny fragile bolt.

 

yes... that is def horrible. happened to me and took some interesting methods to get mine out. Def only use a socket and nothing else.

 

Who is supplying an SS bolt?

Socket, impact, it makes no difference it seems like. At least 7/10 times that you do a pulley press in on the shaft the bolt is breaking off. It's so stupid.

 

I think it should be added to run a chase/tap through that hole on the pulley before you try to get a puller installed.

 

yah makes sense. with the socket it just seems so much easier with lots of fluid to help. Tapping is as @Lucario Runner noted as well. After mine was removed we did all of that and it went on super smooth.

 

@Athlaos time to make some fabbed quick release bolts to go with the pulley studs.

 

It was part of the URD install kit. It's the ss bolt you thread in to have the 3 jaw pulley center on

 

ahh that one. I don't even think I used that. The one that broke for me was the bolt when cutting the snout.

 

I'm having a hell of a time getting these housing bearings out, even with a blind hole puller. How are you gents going about pulling these?

 

Insert meme about shoving white bread in there and using a bolt/shaft the right size to press in and force it out backwards… ?

Using an SS bolt is a retarded move. Straight up and down.

 

ive considered this method but there is barely any room behind the bearing to shove any bread in and ive watched most people successfully utilize this method when there is an inner raced bearing. these needle bearings dont seem to have much outer race for this to work well but i suppose i can try..

 

Clean the bearing out of needles and grease. Drill a small hole in the back of the bearing. Then try the blind again

 

After welding an entire stadium of stainless steel last year I fucking hate stainless lol

@will.i.was how feasible is it to heat the house and hit the bearing with a cold wet rag then repeat your use of puller?

 

I've been heating it up with a map gas torch over a few cycles and in between slide hammering. First time I've heard of the cold rag though.

 

The heat will cause everything to expand and the cold rag concentrated on the bearing itself will cause it to contract more rapidly than the rest of the surrounding assembly which should give you the opportunity to pull it with more ease than before.
