As excellent as the bourbon.

 

There was a bourbon documentary, “Neat”, that carried a similar message from Freddie. Worth a watch.

Cracking an OF SBBS for the first time, these are very hard to come by around here.

As with the 1920, I get a ton of cherry, but dropping in a sliver of ice brings out some oaky chocolate. It’s a good pour but hot.



On a separate topic, anyone ever had this, heard about it for the first time today:

 

My go to for Old Fashioneds.

 

For the first time in, well I can’t even remember, I found allocated whiskey that’s not Kentucky Owl…I can barely acknowledge this as ‘allocated’ with a straight face. I give up on the NC ABC system.

 

Also, making room still. I have a lot of nearly empty bottles. I’m gonna miss this one, haven’t been able to find another #8. Really good.

 

I’m convinced you’re either in a county that just doesn’t receive much allocated, or there’s major corruption going on.

It’s corruption. I’ve gone to these same 8-10 stores enough over the years that I can pretty much map out the delivery route. I’m convinced clerks are getting kickbacks from other bourbon nerds around here to set stuff aside or straight up buying/selling it themselves through proxies. The fact that it just never hits the shelf is dead giveaway.

I had one at the UNCC store location ask me once “what you looking for?” during one of my many random conversations with them. I said “not really sure, something I don’t have.” She told me “got some Buffalo Trace under the counter.” I told her I had 6 at home but I’m starting to think that was my ‘in’ to slip a couple extra bills for allocated whiskey. Hell, a $50 bill on top of MSRP for some of these bottles is still way less than 90% of the stores that set the price….and I think these clerks know it.

I missed the drop by a day, as there were a few other bottles like Stagg and OWA. But, was able to pick up EHT. Perhaps I should have went with the 1792 Sweet Wheat as my one bottle selection to add to the BiB and Full Proof bottles I have, but I know I like EHT. The Blanton’s was my quarterly “hey we have a Blanton’s for you” email from Total Wine. My Dad enjoy’s Blanton’s so when I can get a bottle I do.

 

Good stuff, think I’ll make that the last pour of the night.
