The coldest temp I have ever experienced is -50 in Williston ND , that's ambient temperature no wind chill.

My son got one this summer. He'll drive to local places. I got a ride in the sidecar around the block, yes fun as hell! 25 mph felt like 50!

Damn - I wonder how Tacomas do starting in that weather, or any vehicle for that matter.

Watched a documentary on Amazon Prime a while back called "Sidecar Dogs" about folks with sidehacks who take their dogs along on rides and trips. Looked like a of fun and was really entertaining. Would be a cool slower paced way to travel and see the country.

I have always said if I get to the point where my legs won't hold up a bike anymore I'd be on a three wheeler. But actually a side car would be way more fun. Apparently it takes awhile to learn how to drive one. I'd put a side care on my bonneville rather than sell it. My old lady would feel safer in a side care, until I got her in the air with it! Lol.

When I first worked for a dealership we handled Harley Davidson, Buell, and Triumph. We had one customer that when he got older added a sidecar to his Bonneville and got a few more years of riding in before he stopped. I've never ridden one yet but I suspect it could be fun although at a little slower pace than my normal speeds.

The seats were hard as a rock, and the car I had, '76 Impala started like it had been plugged in all night long. But the transmission wouldn't engage till it had been warming up for 15 minutes. I didn't have a Tacoma at that time. I was driving shit boxes. But people do it in Alaska all the time. Synthetic oil helps a lot IMO, my taco has started just fine at temps -30 .

No one stole my motor. It's out in the maintenance garage.
    Briefly....
Highland Lakes Wing up in Burnett has our "spare" 1830 in their B-25.
They are finally getting a new one.
Our Maintenance crew was set to go fetch, but decided against this week, because of rain (that wasn't).
When ours comes back from Burnett, THAT engine will go into the C-47 (That's All Brother....), because one of those is what the seniors call "The Iran Engine" - it has blown out cylinders more than once. That doesn't make it popular!
The three engines involved here will do a stand dance over the next month, and sometime around December 1, my old 2800 will be back on a stand in the shop.
I'm going to shoot for maximum involvement in the engine swap, so I get pics if nothing else. I will do what I can, or am allowed to.
Today, I retrofitted and hung LED replacements for old fluorescent tubes. And 2 of 4 were already fire hazards!
Oh, and all the HighBay lights in the Hangar proper, will be replaced with LED Highbays on a grant, starting next week.
    Exciting times....

I didn't even think about how the seats would be effected, so many things when it's that cold. Interesting the Chevy seemed fine, at least starting. Don't know how my first car, a '67 Caprice would have handled that. Good to know it seems the Tacoma does fine in very cold weather.

:jellydance: I want to re-skin those....

-60ish F in Fairbanks for a short time, usually down to -35 on the regular brrrrr

We had a 76ish 4wd blazer - two block heaters to keep the motor warm - reach in, push the clutch, start the vehicle, put the transfer case in neutral, transmission in gear, heater on - go back in the house for 15 minutes!!! Drive away!!

    evening boys

Well, you and me are relegated to watch! I'll do my best.
I got to watch Dennis run his metal shrinker tool - that makes the bend in the raw aluminum. Never seen such a thing in action.
Most of the Wednesday guys I work around have been there 15-20 years.

Sue, I only had 1 block heater but that's what I did with the automatic left it plugged in while warming it up. My dad spent time in Anchorage in the army, he's the one who told me leave it plugged in while it idled.

Murray, don't remember if we left it plugged in while it warmed up. We had 2 block heaters (or maybe oil pan heaters - that was over 40 years ago :anonymous:) and no interior heater, so it warmed up quicker and no need for the interior heater, since we didn't sit on the seats until the interior had warmed up, so no cracked seats.

Yes Doggles. I’ve used them on my lab to protect his eyes when hunting pheasants in heavy brush. Hunting dogs often get corneal abrasions when hunting in dense brush. If you can get your dog to wear them they totally protect the eyes.
