Pennsylvania is a better option for me . My friend has private land permission 3.5 hours drive for me . And less than 2 hours to my brothers are thousands of acres of state and federal land with big bucks and bear . Pennsylvania has had Antler restrictions for quite some time now . Nice deer out there . Going back to my brothers next week and then my friends the week after .

Southern Illinois has some badass skeeters.
I guess because of all the swampy land there.
Pennsylvania, by contrast, is comparatively well drained, with little swampy areas.

Many years ago when I was just out of High School, a buddy and I hitched across country.
You used to be able to do that, and nice people would give you a ride without thinking you were a serial killer

So one evening, we got dropped off of I-70 just across the state line from Terre Haute, Indiana.
Middle of nowhere place, so we camped out for the night.

That was just about the most miserable night I can remember.
We were slathered in Army surplus Vietnam era bug repellent... and that stuff would melt plastic.
Seriously.
