I went to the dealership and gave the parts guy my VIN and they gave me a set of wheels Locks but after installing the first one the set they give me looks a little shorter than my original.

Does this looks like the right size?

No picture attached but the locking lug is shorter than the rest of the lugs from Toyota. Locking lugs are a waste of time anymore since they come off just as easy as a lug with a nut extractor.

Updated with pictures. Well, so far, it seems that this is how Toyota makes them, apparently shorter for some reason...

Also, I should have mentioned that the shorter part is the threaded part.

Waste of money. Only folks deterred are dumbos who have no tools other than a lug wrench.

Someone who really wants your wheels / tires will have no problem.

Much better off to have good insurance, photos and receipts

Toyota doesn't make them, the ones I purchased were Toyota part numbered but made by McGard. Not sure who makes the lug nuts, I doubt it is Toyota though. You will be fine.

As long as they are safe to use I'm ok with it. That's all I want to know

    Yes, you will be safe.

Just remember, lock nuts are first off and last on, and always by hand. Never use a gun with them. And torque to spec with a known good torque wrench.

Yes, that length isn't too important. Good to go.

Yeah, mine came pre installed with my new 2020. I was considering getting rid of them and just putting regular lug nuts back on.

I can't see fiddling with those locks on a trail or at the side of the road in the dark when a flat occurs.

I think mine have just become more of a “good luck charm“. My first Toyota truck that I bought in 1988 new had locking Lugnuts on it with with upgraded wheels. Drove that truck until it had 177,000 miles on it and I probably would still be driving it today. If the bed wasn’t rotting off of it. Still ran great. I have taken that same set of Lugnuts and put it on all three of my Toyota trucks since that first one :)
“Good luck charm”, “hand me downs” … I dunno, call them what you want. But all four my trucks have been super reliable and those Lugnuts are the one thing that links them all together

Did you ever have any issues with your locking lug nuts over the years? I’ve heard some say that they can fail and strip out easily and become a PITA to remove. Never owned a vehicle with locking lug nuts. My brand new 1992 Toyota Truck never had them. Neither did my 2003 pathfinder. Owned each for 14-15 years. Well maybe these could be good luck charms for me on my Tacoma? Lol…….

They have been pretty solid since I’ve owned them. Never had an issue with them. Using the puzzle piece key, I never had an issue getting them on or getting them off.
My wife’s 2004 Camry, which we bought new, came with the locking lug nuts. 265,000 miles later, in 2019 we bought her a new Camry. Put the same set of locking Lugnuts from the 2004 on her new car. Again never really had an issue with them. Except for when one of us lost lost the lug key. I ended up contacting McGard and they graciously sent me a new replacement puzzle key for the locking Lugnuts. I was shocked, but kudos to them.

The only time I have seen this, is when they are removed and put on with an impact. (I worked in a tire shop) I have had factory locking nuts on several of my vehicles, typically made by McGard and the only time I have experienced an issue is when I lost the key.

I have quite a bit of experience removing them without a key too... I worked at an autowrecker years ago and it wasn't uncommon for a car to come in with locks and no key. I got pretty good at removing them, without damaging the wheel.

I had them on my Corvette to make me feel better, but figured I'd take my chances with my "there's a million of them out there" 3rd Gen wheels.

OP - unfortunately they are defeated pretty easily.

For my convenience, I removed them even though when I bought my truck it came with them. But then again I park in a garage or side yard and won't stay in Boston ever again.

That's my wife's Subaru next to the Tesla, both happened the same night at the same hotel we stayed at in Boston. Our window looked down on the Volvo, initially I was pissed someone got nicked - then super pissed. Asked for a refund in exchange for no negative reviews on yelp/expedia/travelocity/kayak - for what reason they asked? I said are you kidding? You have unprotected parking in a high crime area obviously! They gave me my money back when we checked out of pre-booked nights.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback all. Maybe I’ll consider keeping them.

I still run them on all my vehicles. Sure they can be beaten, but not every thief carries the right tools and it adds time to yank wheels.

As for hotel in Boston… that sucks glad you weren’t part of the impacted rigs. Dangerous to go to any big city these days sad to say.

Nope, first time to that area, didn't know that would need to be a thing. Naivety from the West.
