I am wondering if anyone knows of anyway to possibly black out the interior. I know there is a black radio bezel and shifter bezel, but I am referring to the hard plastics on the door, the pillars, and on the dash. I will post a photo of the parts I am referring to circled. Is there anyway to black these out? I just think it will look much better, and I am considering picking up some used door panels from my friend for $200 so I could try whatever suggestions you have. Please let me know, thank you.

Anything's possible with a whole lot of interior teardown & some Krylon Fusion. Well, and some light upholstery work for the door panel fabric.

Just remember, it's a truck and black will show absolutely every speck of dust.

No OEM parts but as stated with sown prep and interior paint you can do it. It’s a lot of work but possible. I’m 50% done. Using SEM paint. I need to redo some and so e panels not done. You can get some Clazzio or Katzkin etc for seats. I used Clazzio for the rest. A few photos at dig up. It was a lot brighter at first but has mellowed out.

This is exactly what I want to do, it looks great. I could not find any posts on it on TacomaWorld, thank you. I will definitely look into it more. Is the SEM paint the satin black? And what do you do for prep before painting? Also, I think I am going to buy some Katzkin seat upholstery in a couple months, also will buy black seatbelts, and the black steering wheel trim, radio/vent bezel, and shifter bezel, and a black headliner/sunvisors.

The SEM I am using is Landau Black. Follow the instructions for the paint. You need to clean, rough it up, prep with a base, then pain with several layers. You need them all of it at the same time as they need to bond. The tricky part is making sure your prep is on point. Depending on the type of plastic it uses different. The prep part is the most important part, so it bonds right. I would rough it up more than I did but overall still not bad it needs a bit more work to be more durable.

Katzkin was going to be my choice. I may still go back and do the rear with it. The front seats are from an Audi S5, and I kind of want to get the rear to match. Black seatbelts are on my list. Sunvisors, you can try to use 3rd gen. It needs a different connection but that would work. then you can get the headliner to match. Currently, I just did quick and dirty and used SEM to die the headliner.

How's the dash and door panel paint holding up? I am still planning on eventually doing this to my 2012 if I do not buy a 3rd gen next Spring. Also, how did you paint the grab handle on the door? It's a weird material, almost rubbery.

i haven't seen plastic dip but I would not expect it to hold up too well.

I just removed the handle and treated it the same. It was okay. Overall it's been okay. I think I needed to cure it better or add a top layer. Some parts scratched away easily after some use. The handles I did plan to wrap them with leather, the same as the small patch. For now, the door cards are back to regular. I need to go back and do the doors for the full look. The rest is mostly good. the door seals don't hold it well at all since they are heavy traffic areas. Same I think better prep and a top coat would help. I felt I did a really good prep and several layers of good paint, but the doors couldn't hang. Ill get back to it again but haven't had time.

From multiple interior and upholstery guys that use SEM or vinyl dyes on Youtube, the consensus seems to be SEM does a solid job and is the best bet. BUT like you mentioned, they ultimately recommend a topcoat of sorts, cause even with a lot of due diligence in prep and slow tack coating to start, build, then wet, it'll ultimately scratch up. Only reason I backpedaled when considering this endeavor and decided to just embrace the interior as is (minus adding Clazzio and some OEM black pieces). Aside from your durability concerns, I think you did a great clean job. Very even.

Also, I did a double-take "WAIT. HOLD UP. S5 BUCKETS?!" that was unexpected.

lol Thanks yah the initial result was super clean and even. It looked killer on day one but I also went wheeling on a trip to baja shortly after and that gave it a good test. I used all SEM products based on similar feedback and research. I did not use a top coat but would strongly recommend it as well. I plan to tackle it again. I decided to go for it since I like working on the truck and at the time had run out of things to tinker with. And yes retrofitted S5 Seats, 14-way power, and lumbar. If it had the newer cooling, it would be epic.

Oh agreed, still nicely done. That's part of the reason I love the Taco. It's something to tinker with (when time permits), and barrier for entry on modifications and maintenance is pretty low. The seats definitely were a "WTF, that's a power move." Had an older S6 and drive a supercharged A6 now when not in the Taco, so the seats were a familiar sight, but I never would have thought to retrofit them (I also don't have a donor, I need my car lol).

very nice. I had GTi, close to getting a R32 but bought an A4 Ultra Sport Wagon prior to this and had always wanted the S model. almost bought a used RS4 or Golf R before the Taco but miles to price for me didn't work for me. Always loved the seats and one day came upon them on Ebay for a steal and BAM! took some work but overall clean setup.
